Amane (アマネ, Amane) was an associate of Zegin Highline who sought to gain entry into a locked ruin to acquire the Dragon Vein from within.[1] He only appears in the video game Hunter × Hunter: Altar of Dragon Vein.
Appearance[]
Amane is a tall, slim man with a prominent chin and round head shape. He has thin hazel eyes, violet hair, and very sharp eyebrows. He sports what appears to be a red-pink tuxedo over a white long-sleeved dress shirt that is cuffed at the wrists.[1]
Personality[]
Amane appears to be quite sadistic and selfish, showing no hesitation to manipulate Kurapika as he sees fit. He also seems to be very undisciplined and not very hard working, showcasing this when he steals the ring from Killua and Leorio after they put effort into locating and attempting to retrieve it.[1]
Background[]
Amane was an Amateur Hunter who had done various business transactions within the Black Market. He purchased a fake Scarlet Eye pendant from there. He would eventually become allies with Zegin. Prior to the game events, Kurapika began seeking out Amane for his Scarlet Eye necklace. The two would then engage in battle. From this, Kurapika would accidentally let his guard down and be put under hypnosis.[1]
Plot[]
Altar of Dragon Vein[]
Note: Events occurring in Altar of Dragon Vein do not constitute canon material. Furthermore, some events may slightly differ depending on the current player character.
Amane, along with a mind-controlled Kurapika, arrives at the ruins where Killua and Leorio are, who are attempting to retrieve the ring and bring it to Romaria as it might hold some clues or other forms of value. Amane has other plans, though, and commands Kurapika to retrieve the ring before Killua and Leorio can do so themselves. Kurapika successfully grabs the ring and hands it over to Amane. The two attempt to leave the ruins shortly after, but Killua and Leorio chase after them and persist that they hand the ring over. Amane proposes a dual, so he controls Kurapika to square off against the two. After the battle, he leaves with the ring in tow.[1]
Amane is seen once again at Zegin's Mansion. Here, he accompanies both Zegin and Sabaki. The trio then drive off to find the second ring. During the second visit to the Crystal Caves, Amane awaits the Hunter group. To distract them from Zegin's attack on the airship, he uses his ability to control one of the group members. He then forces them to fight him once again, but Amane is soon wounded. Sabaki then appears. He proceeds to knock Amane unconscious from him being a liability.[1]
Sometime before Zegin's demise, Amane awakens. He then finds his body in the altar's rubble and turns him into his puppet. While the Hunter group searches inside Zegin's mansion once again, they find the duo. Amane reveals he has the remaining Goddess Advent Card to them, and had been searching for them prior to the Dragon Vein's destruction. Furthermore, he plans on adding Zegin to his private collection of mind-controlled soldiers. He then manipulates Zegin to attack. After the long battle, Amane is finally defeated. He laughs to himself on wanting the Hunter group for his collection. With his last breath, he controls Zegin to use his remaining aura to kill everyone in the room, only for Sabaki to kill Zegin.[1]
Equipment[]
Handbell: The handbell Amane uses is a vital key for him to utilize his Nen ability with.[1]
Abilities & Powers[]
Nen[]
Amane was a Manipulator. The only Nen technique he showed was Hatsu. Amane's Nen ability, Trembling Melody, was a coercive type of mind control achieved through the sound of a bell he carried.[1]

After Amane rings his handbell, anyone who hears its sound immediately falls under his control. Once caught by the ability's effect, the victims are left with no free will nor free movement until Amane, voluntarily or involuntarily, releases them. The ability also affects the memory of the controlled one; they don't remember much of the experience. In the case of more than one person being present during Trembling Melody's use, only the first person to hear the ringtone is affected and becomes controlled. However, even when already controlling a person, Amane seems to be able to affect (to an unclear extent) a second person with the sound of his bell. Apparently, the ability can even control a dead body. Given the visual effects of the ability and the fact that it works through sound,[1] it is possible that Amane also uses Emission to send his aura along with the sound waves. |
Trivia[]
- The concept of Amane's Nen ability probably derives from an old-fashioned type of employer-employee relationship where the "masters" use bells to summon butlers, housemaids, nannies, or other domestic workers in the home to serve them. The model of Amane's handbell is one of the types of bells that are also known as "servant bell(s)", and when controlling Kurapika, Amane says he turned his victim into his faithful servant.[1]
