Anesuto (アネスト, Anesuto)[1] is a personal soldier for 9th Prince Halkenburg.[2]
Appearance[]
Anesuto is a relatively tall man with short, light-colored hair and a rectangular face. He has big eyes that appear to be half-opened, giving the impression that he is not particularly energetic. He has a big nose, and a big mouth with thick lips.
Like the rest of Halkenburg's personal guards, Anesuto wears a suit while acting in his capacity as a guard.
Personality[]
Anestuo's personality is hard to identify beyond being relatively reserved, since he generally does not speak much. He is comfortable enough to ask questions in the discussion among his peers about where Shikaku's soul is. On the tenth day of the voyage, Anesuto and Nikoraurusu appear indignant at Halkenburg's arrest by the Justice Bureau. They seemingly try to protest it or get the Justice Bureau to compromise somehow; Anesuto's expression is noticeably less animated than Nikoraurusu, perhaps due to his facial features.[3]
Plot[]
Succession Contest arc[]
On the first day of the voyage, 9th Prince Halkenburg retires from the departure ceremony back to his room, Room 1009, and is horrified to discover that at least eleven of his men, including Anesuto, have collapsed in his room and are seemingly unconscious.[2] Halkenburg awakes in his bed several hours later and rushes out to check on his men. He sees his men busy unpacking and organizing his possessions and wonders if what he saw was a dream, but by chance, looks at the back of his left hand and sees a pinion imprinted there.[4]
On the third day of the voyage, Halkenburg leads his men in a moment of silence for 12th Prince Momoze. His men stand in a semicircle surrounding him; Anesuto stands on the left of Nikoraurusu, Captain of Halkenburg's Guards. The unison of Halkenburg's men in action generates a massive amount of aura, strong enough for 1st Prince Benjamin to feel from four rooms away in Room 1001 and contact a terrified Shikaku, a personal elite soldier of his who had been sent to guard and spy on Halkenburg on the first day, for an immediate report of the situation.[5]
After the moment of silence ends, Halkenburg begins walking toward Room 1009's entrance. Nikoraurusu makes an attempt to stop Halkenburg from making an appeal to his father, King Nasubi, but drops the matter when he sees how upset Halkenburg is. Halkenburg leaves with Anesuto, four more of his men, and Shikaku, and instructs the rest of them to continue carrying out their duties.[5]
Halkenburg makes his way to Nasubi's residence where he asks to see Nasubi. Anesuto[note 1] and fellow guard Furichosefu watch the area they came from as the other guards watch over Halkenburg as he speaks with the guards at the VVIP gate, but Halkenburg is ultimately not allowed to enter, and settles for leaving the guards at the VVIP gate a letter with instructions to pass it to him.[6] He continues trying this for the next few days, and on the sixth day, forces the guards at the VVIP gate to let him in at gunpoint. Halkenburg speaks to Nasubi, and after failing to appeal to Nasubi, to assassinate Nasubi, and to commit suicide, returns to his room, awakened and resolved to win, and equipped with a new ability. Halkenburg returns to Room 1009 and uses his Grimmal: The Dissonance to force the soul of his guard Sumidori into Shikaku's body.[7]
On the seventh day of the voyage,[note 2] Halkenburg and his men stand around a deeply-sleeping Sumidori, with a machine hooked up to him to monitor his brainwaves. Because of their understanding that Sumidori's body is just asleep, Furichosefu theorizes that Sumidori's soul is possessing Shikaku's body, a theory confirmed by Sumidori in Shikaku's body. Anestuo asks where Shikaku's soul is, and Naikēru suggests it could be swapped out, somewhere else, or coinhabiting Shikaku's body with Sumidori's soul. Halkenburg decides they need to find out what happens to the soul of the person taken over, and proposes four possibilities. After some discussion about the difficulties in proving or disproving any of the theories, Halkenburg calls for his men's attention, and explains his understanding of why he was given the ability, and the implications that the reason he was given the ability has on what the ability itself can do. Anesuto stands on the right side of the group, between Nikoraurusu and Kōbihi, and the men listen closely to Halkenburg.[8]
On the ninth day, Halkenburg's men gather again, to collectively review their investigation and to be briefed on the next steps to take. "Shikaku" walks over to Room 1007, and presses its doorbell. When one of 7th Prince Luzurus' guards speaks to him over the intercom, "Shikaku" proclaims Benjamin, and promptly shoots himself in the head. While Benjamin and Luzurus' teams scramble to make sense of the situation, Halkenburg has his men surround "Sumidori", prepared to identify who is inside Sumidori's body and progress their investigation. "Sumidori" wakes up, and identifies Halkenburg in front of him.[8]
On the tenth day of the voyage, Benjamin and Balsamilco Might, his Captain of the Guards, hear Vict, another of their men, struggle in battle again Halkenburg. Balsamilco has Halkenburg arrested under suspicion of premediated murder, evidenced by Benjamin's soldiers continually experiencing anomalies. IPA members Steiner and Peuckert, temporarily on loan to Kakin's Justice Bureau Investigation Department, turn up in a team of five at Room 1009 to effect the arrest. A member of their team speaks with Anesuto and Nikoraurusu and inform them what is going on. Anesuto and Nikoraurusu are unhappy at the situation, but Halkenburg and his men are unable to do anything, and Halkenburg is led away by the Justice Bureau team.[3]
On the eleventh day of the voyage, Balsamilco turns up at the Justice Bureau in preparation for his trial against Halkenburg, not expecting any resistance since Halkenburg had been separated from his guards. However, after passing through security, Balsamilco notices Vict and is distracted by his presence, leading to him falling victim to Halkenburg's ability and swapping souls with Halkenburg himself.[9] Halkenburg lets his body get infected with TSK-17 found on Balsamilco's body and, very early in the morning on the twelfth day, die. Through Balsamilco's body, Halkenburg conveys three final wishes to Benjamin: a ship-wide announcement, a send-off by his supporters, and his personal guards to transport his casket. Benjamin grants them, wanting to be able to show that he honored Halkenburg's final wishes.[10]
At noon on the twelfth day of the voyage, twelve of Halkenburg's men act as pallbearers for Halkenburg's casket; Anesuto stands at the back of the right side of the casket. They begin the funeral procession from the Tier 3 General Hospital, where Halkenburg had been rushed to when he initially collapsed,[11] and are seen making their way up the central staircase connecting Tiers 2 and 3.[12]
Abilities & Powers[]
Nen[]
Given that Halkenburg sent his men Shedule and Yuhirai to Kurapika's Nen lessons on the second day with instructions to learn all they can about Nen beasts,[13] it is likely that none of Halkenburg's men, including Anesuto, know anything about Nen beyond what was mentioned by Kurapika over the emergency channel.[14]
It is worth noting that Anesuto is seen contributing to the massive aura when Halkenburg and his men unite in a moment of silence for Momoze.[5] This is a sign that Anesuto has been marked by Halkenburg's Guardian Spirit Beast; Kurapika notes that those with the mark of Halkenburg's Guardian Spirit Beast are half-awakened to Nen.[15]

Notes
- ↑ Anesuto's appearance in this scene is assumed from the fact that guards that appear in the related scene in Chapter 382 appear to be the same men, only drawn more clearly in.
- ↑ The exact time this occurred is ambiguous, and is most likely on Day 6 or 7, but the possibility remains that it occurs on Day 8. While originally surrounded by completely unrelated events confirmed to take place on Day 9, information released in Chapter 404 about the workings of consciousness of those affected by Halkenburg's ability makes it illogical for the complete interaction to happen on Day 9. A wide-angle panel of the Black Whale is also noted in the middle of Halkenburg's scene in Chapter 386, which has been very commonly used throughout the arc to denote that an unspecified amount of time has passed.
