Assassin A was one of the assassins hired by the Ten Dons to eliminate the Phantom Troupe.[1]
Appearance[]
Assassin A was a tall man with a medium build. He had distinct facial features with a prominent nose, heavy bags under his eyes, downward angled eyebrows, and lazy but piercing, light-colored eyes. He kept medium-length hair that reached his shoulders, outstanding sideburns, and likely possessed substantial body hair as noted by his hairy arms. His clothes consisted of generally military-like attire with a combat army shirt, a military-style beret, and a pair of combat boots into which he tucked the legs of the trousers.[2]
Personality[]
Assassin A was a confident and individualistic man who was also quite bloodthirsty. With a solitary personality, he was not interested in working with the other assassins and proposed that they should work by themselves in their mission to eliminate the Phantom Troupe. He also confidently ridiculed the idea of using color codes as brought up by the other assassins, claiming that no one would use them.[1] Assassin A was also shown to be a perceptive man, able to catch a glimpse of Chrollo's extremely swift strike to Neon's neck on surveillance footage, claiming that anyone else would have missed it.[2] He was also quite assertive and directed the discussion to use a majority rule vote, most likely to validate his personal stance and to sway the conversation to his side.[1]
Assassin A was shown to be a bloodthirsty man fully indulged in the thrill of the hunt, especially when the target had demonstrated to be a worthy enough prey. To complement this, he had a sturdy composure and was able to hide this side of him extremely well, containing all of his thoughts internally even as he was growing excited at the prospect of facing his opponent. His composure allowed him to think cautiously and tactically despite his turbulent inner thrill, and he took the necessary precautions and considered things carefully as he hunted his target.[2] However, his confidence and composure would later diminish when facing the things truly unknown to him, entering a state of panic.[3]
Plot[]
Yorknew City arc[]
When the assassins first meet up with the Mafia in Yorknew City to learn about their mission in detail, Assassin A's confident attitude makes Kurapika think that he and Assassin B are the only ones who are not intimidated by Silva and Zeno Zoldyck and can hold their own. During the meeting, Assassin A chiefly opposes the idea of using code names and working as a team, proposing that they all work by themselves. Once Kurapika sides with those who want to work by themselves and a majority is formed, Assassin A leaves to find the targets on his own.[1]
Before the start of the rescheduled Underground Auction, Assassin A is seen standing in the control room of the Cemetery Building and observing the surveillance footage to catch any irregularities. He eventually spots something and asks a Mafia member to rewind the footage, allowing him to see Chrollo knocked Neon unconscious with an incredibly fast strike to her neck. He tells himself that anyone else would have missed it and becomes excited at the prospect of hunting a worthy prey, chuckling as he leaves the room to kill his target.[2]
During his search, Assassin A smells blood and realizes that the target has deliberately left a trail of blood and then wiped it up to leave just enough of a scent. He breathes in the smell and says that only those as skilled as himself can detect it, adding that he and his target are both predators addicted to killing. He makes his way to a room with Assassin F tied to a chair and stabbed with several pens in his legs. After Assassin A quickly throws a knife at his chest to confirm that he's dead, Chrollo peers out from behind him and assures him that any won't use any boring traps. Chrollo pulls a pen from Assassin F's head and asks that they fight one on one. Readying his aura and holding a large knife in his hand, Assassin A happily agrees to the duel.[2]
Breathing heavily and sweating profusely, Assassin A laughs and asks Chrollo why he's still alive as his body is shown pinned in pieces up against a wall. Chrollo explains that the Nen creatures who have eaten parts of him are called Indoor Fish and can only exist in a closed room. He adds that they are carnivores and enjoy human flesh, explaining to Assassin A that he can't feel pain or bleed while they are feeding on him. As Chrollo opens a large window and explains that he can't die until the creatures disappear, Assassin A's mangled corpse falls bloody to the floor.[3]
Equipment[]
Combat Knives: Assassin A used combat knives as his primary weapon of choice. In the manga, he carried at least two of them so that he could throw them to scout and attack at a distance.[2] While in the 2011 anime adaptation, he seemed to carry only one.[4]
Abilities & Powers[]
Assassin A was considered a powerful warrior who specialized in murder. He gave proof of his quick reflexes when he noticed how Chrollo had knocked Neon unconscious with an incredibly fast strike to her neck. He was also a skilled tracker with a superhuman sense of smell, as seen when following a faint trail of blood left by Chrollo. He appeared to be very proficient in knife handling, using a military combat knife as his main weapon, as well as a very accurate thrower.[2]
Nen[]
Assassin A was able to use Ren at the very least.[2] He was one of two assassins hired by the Ten Dons who Kurapika said was not intimidated by the two Zoldycks and could hold his own.[1]
