The Path of Majority Rules (
Synopsis[]
As Netero and the small official leave on the Hunter Association airship, they wish the remaining 40 examinees good luck on reaching the bottom of Trick Tower alive within 72 hours. The Amori Brothers cannot see any windows or steps on the tower, stating that it would be suicidal to climb down it. However, examinee #86 confidently approaches them and begins to climb down, pointing out that there are plenty of handholds for an expert rock climber. As he makes his way down the side of the tower, Gon and Killua stand by the edge and watch his descent, unable to believe how quickly he's moving down.
However, the two suddenly spot multiple flying creatures in the distance, and as the man tells himself that he will be the first to reach the bottom, he hears noises behind them and then turns around to see the terrifying monsters. He screams as the creatures rip his body apart, and Leorio rightly comments that it isn't the best way down. Kurapika tells him to look around and guesses there must be a hidden door. As the examinees continue searching for an entrance, Geretta is the first to find a trapdoor and makes his way into the tower, unseen by the others. Kurapika suddenly realizes that the number of examinees is decreasing, counting only 23 left at the tower and guessing several entrances exist.
Gon and Killua then reveal to them that they found multiple trapdoors, wondering which one they should take. Inside the tower, the three examiners sit on the floor and hear the examinees going through the trapdoor. One begins the test by whistling to summon many hooded figures with restraints on their wrists. He tells them to take their positions, and they quickly obey his command. On the top of the tower, the four find five trapdoors close together, and Kurapika is confident that there are traps beneath most of them. Gon and Killua then reveal that they can only be tripped once, explaining that they saw someone fall through a trapdoor and could not open it afterward. Killua guesses that it's one trapdoor for each applicant and that they will be on their own, with Leorio partly agreeing since the entrances are just wide enough for one person.
The two boys explain that they plan to pick a door randomly and take the chance that a trap is waiting for them. Leorio agrees since it might be a test of luck, and Kurapika asks who gets to pick first, with the four playing rock-paper-scissors to determine the order. The four stand on their respective doors and jump down on the count of three, with Leorio being the only one who doesn't land on his feet. However, they immediately see that the doors all lead to the same room, with Gon and Killua laughing at the turn of events. Unable to find an exit, they spot a sign that reads "The Path of Majority Rules", explaining that the five of them must work together to descend the tower. They see five wrist timers on a small table, each with ✕ and ◯ buttons, and Kurapika deduces that they won't be able to leave until one more examinee joins them.
A voice suddenly plays over the intercom on the wall. It acknowledges Kurapika's deduction, explaining that there are multiple routes down the tower and that the key to their route is cooperation. The message ends by wishing them good luck, and after waiting two hours, Leorio angrily wonders whether everyone has already entered or they're too stupid to find an opening. They suddenly hear a noise above them, and a trapdoor slowly opens before closing again and then opening all the way. After an examinee falls down and hits the floor, it's revealed to be Tonpa.
