NGL (N(エヌ)G(ジー)L(エル)()()()()()()(), Enu Jī Eru) is the 188th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

Chap 188 - Chimera Ants capturing humans and taking them back to the nest

Chimera Ants capturing humans and taking them back to the nest

Above a small village, Chimera Ants suddenly appear and attack the stunned inhabitants, immobilizing them and carrying back their unconscious bodies. It's stated that the Queen continues to move until she finds a place she likes, during which time she will produce more soldier Ants. She will then produce worker Ants to construct the nest and stay there until her death. The soldier Ants deliver her food and will cause entire villages to disappear if a Queen that tall (2 meters) has the appetite.

Elsewhere, Spin informs the others that there have been no reports of mass disappearances during the last six months. Gon and Killua try to narrow down the search, but Spin can't find anything. Banana thinks that they may be worrying for nothing, but Kite asks Spin to pull up the ocean currents on the day the limb was found. The two go back and forth, and Kite says that the Balsa Islands are a possibility, as well as the Mitene Union. Both Stick and Banana perk up at the mention of the latter, realizing that NGL and East Gorteau are located there. Killua asks about NGL, and Kite explains that it stands for "Neo-Green Life," a Neo-Luddite society that lives among nature.

Spin further explains that all their communication is by mail, they travel by horseback, and it's illegal to bring in any modern technology. She says that if the Ant washed up on their shores, the people would likely do nothing, wanting to let nature run its course just as they had done with an epidemic previously. Kite concludes that if any information did get out, it would be too late, guessing the Ant may already be building its nest.

Meanwhile, in the Ants' nest, the soldier Ants pile up the dozens of naked bodies to feed to the Queen. Alligator confronts Colt and says that his squad brought in more, but Colt says that it's about quality, not quantity. The two are interrupted by a telepathic message from the Queen ordering all the Squadron Leaders to gather around her. They comment on the fact that her signal makes their heads hurt, and Small Bear wishes that she could talk like they can.

Chap 188 - The Queen summoning all Squadron Leaders

The Queen summoning all Squadron Leaders

With everyone assembled in front of her, the Queen informs them that she will now focus entirely on giving birth to the King. After she orders them to bring her fifty humans a day, one of the Ants asks if he can speak, and she gives him permission to do so. He informs her of the threats humans pose if they should attack the nest, saying that they have several options, but she quickly tells him that they can decide on the best course of action. The Ant then asks her if they are allowed to have names, leaving the Queen confused as to what a name is. He explains that it's a title to make themselves distinct, and she replies that they can do as they wish.

After the leaders disperse, the Queen observes that her subordinates value individualism while also working together for the sake of the colony. She wonders why she finds it fascinating and thinks that she may have human blood too. Eagerly awaiting the birth of her son, she says that she can imagine him so clearly and assures him that he will stand at the top of all species. After entering a large chamber filled with three large eggs hanging from the ceiling that contains the Royal Guards, she says that she will come up with their names herself.

Meanwhile, a man driving a truck takes Kite and the others to the NGL border and points out their embassy—two giant hollowed-out trees. The man asks why so many people are coming here, saying that he has already taken ten groups today. The driver leaves, and Kite realizes that others must have had the same idea, preparing the others to be wary of NGL since they aren't what they claim to be. As Banana tells Gon that many unpleasant rumors surround the country, two ambassadors stand in front of the entrance to greet them.
