Synopsis[]

Chap 230 - Gon overwhelmed by Killua's explanation

Gon overwhelmed by Killua's explanation

Sneaking through a river, Gon and Killua successfully make their way into East Gorteau. The two re-dress and then worry about getting seen by any civilians. Killua elaborates the system of whistleblowing that the country employs, whereby citizens are put into teams and receive points for catching spies/defectors and informing the authorities of any uprisings. In addition, families are separated to prevent groups from conspiring to defect, with any family members left behind being either imprisoned or executed. Killua continues by talking about the enormous wealth gap in the country, with most of the citizens in poverty and starving. He continues to explain things, but Gon's brain becomes overloaded with all the information. Killua tells him he learned it from Illumi, who probably heard it from Zeno (who once infiltrated the country for a mission). All the information was also available on the Hunter Website.

The two come across a little village filled with several huts, and Killua takes the lead, telling Gon to wait while he checks things out. He finds everything abandoned and gives Gon the all-clear. Gon wonders if everyone left for the capital, but Killua realizes that someone poorly tried to cover up an attack. He discovers a mass grave unearthed by wild dogs and believes that the entire village is buried there, surmising that the true purpose of the national rally is to make it look like thousands of citizens have left their homes to attend. He guesses that the selection process has already started, and given the large population of 5 million, that the Chimera Ants are going through the villages and towns one by one. And with no one allowed to use cell phones, it will much easier for them to raid the villages eastward toward Peijin, with the citizens unable to warn their neighbors of the coming attack.

The two wonder how the selection process works, and Gon believes the enemy doesn't have enough Ants to sort for possible soldiers. But Killua says that the sorters wouldn't even need to know Nen if they're being manipulated. Gon immediately thinks of Kite and the state he's in. Killua explains that that's Pitou's ability and that they can probably have it on autopilot for many people at the same time, likening it to what Genthru did. All Pitou would have to do is force some aura into the puppet's fist, use them to hit the target, and they could make 50,000 soldiers, leaving behind 4,950,000 dead. Killua is confident that the two of them could easily take out numerous puppets, inciting riots and getting the surviving citizens to check the neighboring villages, but he knows that that would immediately compromise their plan of invading the palace.

He decides it's best if they lay low, but Gon says they can't just ignore it if it's already started. Killua gives in, but says he will do it alone and that Gon has to stay hidden. Gon is confused at first, but Killua quickly reminds him that their one job is to take down Pitou, telling him not to think about anything else. Killua says the job will be easier if he does it alone, and Gon says he understands, but Killua questions if he really does. He pleads Gon to promise to stay hidden, regardless of how many people he sees being killed.
