9: Part 3 (9—③, Kyū (San)) is the 232nd chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.
Synopsis[]
Bat and Hollow using a combination attack against Gon
Gon tries to get his bearings after being ambushed by Hollow and Bat, worrying that both are nocturnal hunters. He suddenly hears a flapping sound to his left, waiting for the attack, and three feathers strike the back of his neck as Bat flies in and attacks. She gleefully laughs, and as he pulls out the feathers, Gon realizes that she's using the sound of her wings to cover Hollow's movement. Detailed information is given about Hollow's, regarding both the quietness of their wings and their ability to hunt by using sound with the position of their ears. Hollow is confident in his extraordinary hearing, able to sense Gon stepping on leaves and his clothes moving. Gon feels something to his right, and three feathers strike him in his right upper leg, with Bat again flying in with an attack.
An angry Gon recognizes their strategy and realizes something, suddenly using Ren. Bat is impressed but not worried, and the two Chimera Ants initiate their attack once again. This time, however, Gon focuses on Bat's wings alone and as soon as Hollow's feathers strike his back, he is able to tell where she's attacking from. He throws a punch right toward her, but she quickly dodges, and Gon realizes she must also be using echolocation (which is explained in detail). Gon tries his strategy again, but the same result happens. Bat is impressed by his sense of hearing, and Hollow says to himself that his feathers aren't doing much damage.
Gon knows he has to change things up, suddenly calming his breathing and readying Rock. Hollow worries about the increase in aura, but Bat is confident they can use it their advantage if they're able to overcome what is probably his signature attack. Bat declines help from Hollow, confident in her echolocation as she flies high up into the sky. Gon notices her getting farther away and eventually can't hear her at all. She suddenly uses her Dive Bomb, but Gon knows what she's trying and that it won't work since her wings aren't like Hollow's.
Hollow saving Bat from Gon's Paper attack
Bat remains confident, especially when Gon doesn't move a muscle, and continues flying straight toward him. Gon moves at the last possible moment, with Bat's attack only cutting the top of his jacket as she realizes she's fallen into his trap. However, she is sure that she can dodge his punch since he's in an awkward stance after dodging her attack. But instead of throwing a punch, Gon screams as loud as he can right toward her, disrupting her echolocation and causing her to flee. Gon is also confident in his hearing and uses Paper to send a ball of aura right at her. But right before it makes contact, Hollow deflects it with a thrown rock, and Gon sees his new form: Gorilla Mode.
He hurtles toward Gon and breaks a tree with his punch, which is followed by a loud sound that makes Gon cover his ears. Hollow seizes his chance and sends Gon back with a hard right. Gon wonders if ultrasounds caused the loud noise as he sees Bat flying up above. She yells at him for screaming in her face and says she's the best when it comes to sonic attacks. Gon realizes that their real combination attack is Bat stunning the target with sound and then Hollow beating them with his strength. The hidden figure is still observing from a distance, again curious to know how Gon will deal with the situation.
