Synopsis[]

Hearing a noise behind him, Agon turns around and suddenly sees Hisoka charging toward him with a playing card in his hand. As Agon draws his sword to defend himself, Gon continues to watch the encounter and seizes his chance to steal Hisoka's badge, taking aim and swinging his fishing rod. Hisoka closes in on Agon, and the moment before the two clash, Gon snags Hisoka's badge with the hook and pulls it back toward himself. After the two examinees pass each other, a wound suddenly opens up on Agon's shoulder as blood pours out. Gon catches the #44 badge, and Hisoka stares blankly at him before realizing that his badge was taken and appearing impressed by the accomplishment.

Chap 28 - Gon struck by one of Geretta's blow darts

Gon struck by one of Geretta's blow darts

As soon as Hisoka takes one step toward him, Gon quickly runs in the opposite direction and can't believe that he was able to take Hisoka's badge. However, a strange feeling suddenly floods his body, and he staggers before falling to the ground. With Gon unable to move, Geretta appears behind him and picks up Hisoka's badge, saying that 7,000 represents the number of chances he had to attack Gon before then as well as the casts that Gon practiced to improve his accuracy. He then removes a small blow dart from the back of Gon's neck and says that while he left himself open during his practice, his efforts deserve respect, especially his cast that stole Hisoka's badge.

Geretta steals Gon's #405 badge and tells him that skill and caution are two different things, wishing him better luck next time before he quickly takes his leave. Gon lies upset and motionless on the ground before Hisoka eventually appears holding Geretta's severed head with several Hemotropic Butterflies around him. Hisoka smiles and praises Gon's achievement, asking if he was waiting until he attacked someone else. He also wonders if Gon learned his stalking technique on his own and calls it a work of art, praising his timing and the concealment of his bloodlust. He then drops his #44 badge on the ground in front of Gon and is confident that while Geretta's blow darts have a muscle relaxant that lasts for ten days, he should easily be able to move before then.

Chap 28 - Gon refusing to keep Hisoka's badge

Gon refusing to keep Hisoka's badge

Gon wonders why he's leaving without his badge, and Hisoka reveals that he doesn't need it since Geretta turned out to be his specified target, pointing to the #384 badge on his chest. Gon tells him to take it anyway, but Hisoka allows him to keep it, explaining that he didn't recover it from him and adding that Gon now owes him one. However, when Hisoka turns to leave, Gon suddenly stands up and holds up Hisoka's badge, adamantly stating that he doesn't want to owe him anything and again telling him to take it. Surprised at first, Hisoka puts on a sinister smile and chuckles before refusing to do so.

Tossing away Geretta's head and walking toward him, Hisoka tells Gon that he won't kill him until he becomes a worthy opponent, suddenly punching him hard in the face and sending him flying back. He assures Gon that he will take his badge back if he can punch him like that, telling him not to lose it and chuckling as he walks away. As night falls on Zevil Island, a sulking and determined Gon is seen sitting inside a hollowed-out tree.
