Synopsis[]

Chap 288 - Pouf secretly escaping to reach Meruem

Pouf secretly escaping to reach Meruem

Pitou recounts to Pouf what happened since the start of the invasion, mentioning things unknown to Gon in order to draw his attention. They leave out the moment when the King held Komugi in his arms, unsure how to articulate the event. In response, Gon doesn't move at all, but Pitou notices a slight change in his eyes and ends their account by saying that the King freely left with the enemy, pointing toward Pouf's direction. As Pitou stresses that there's no need to go after them, Pouf discerns that they headed to the south, silently thanking Pitou. He feigns compliance, saying they will all wait until the King returns, but begins to secretly release the core from his body, leaving the shell (1/7) of himself behind while the rest (6/7) slowly trickles out in order to make for the King.

Netero stands ready to fight, but the King still wonders why if he knows he will lose. He asks him if he fights for humanity's sake, and says Netero should side with him if that's the case, denouncing the concept of borders and the inevitable inequality they bring. He promises to do away with the former and to create a world that may not be perfectly equal, but one that is at least without unjust poverty. Netero seems unsure, and the King admits that he will use power and fear at first, but only to maintain the necessary order. He assures him he now understands that the purpose of power is to protect the weak who deserve to live and not to subjugate the conquered. As the King refuses to fight and offers to talk, sitting down and resting his right arm on his knee, Netero worries that he's wavering between Ants and humans, claiming that he has to choose between the two.

Chap 288 - Netero beginning his attack

Netero beginning his attack

A flashback to Netero on the phone with various government officials. They only desire that the creatures are killed as quickly as possible. Netero asks them if there are any restrictions, but they defer to the Hunters since they are the experts, with Netero realizing that the Hunter Association will take the fallout if any problems arise. Back in the present, Netero realizes he must act before he begins to be swayed by the King's words. He slowly walks forward, and moves his hands into a praying motion, with a look of disbelief on the King's face as Netero's 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva unleashes its First Hand directly on him.

Youpi continues to dispatch the Knuckle clones with ease, with only ten left as Morel realizes Youpi is leaving him for last. Completely exhausted and unable to even stand, Morel can no longer move the doubles very far, hoping to delay Youpi until A.P.R. causes him to go bankrupt, but Youpi quickly destroys the rest first. Youpi slowly approaches him and says he already spotted him much earlier, but wanted to save him for last. Youpi's mind is now clear since he can store his rage elsewhere, and as he calls Morel a half-dead fly, he says their perseverance is what makes humans amazing. These words of admiration are not what Morel expected, but he knows them to reflect how Youpi truly feels. Youpi goes on to say that he feels he has to give him a respectable death, planning to end his suffering with one strike from his blade. Morel realizes it's the end of the line for him and doesn't mind being killed by Youpi as the blade closes in, with a small spray of blood seen soon after.
