The Last ((さい)()()()()()()()()(), Saigo) is the 297th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

The King tells Netero that he will surely die of blood loss from the wound, but Netero quickly dismisses him and suddenly brings his hand to his leg, using Nen to affect the blood vessels and muscles and sealing up the wound. He confidently stands on his one leg and tells the King not to be so sure of himself after a lucky strike, declaring that their fight has just begun. Although impressed by his perseverance and determination, the King comments on the inevitability of receiving the wound because of Netero's imperfect defense strategy. It's stated that his Gungi matches with Komugi had allowed the King to anticipate at near-supernatural levels, and he tells Netero that it was as easy as determining his rhythm, calmly threatening to take his left arm next as he leaps high into the air.

Netero and Meruem beginning their final clash

As Netero readies his hands and realizes the finality of the moment, it's stated that their exchange lasted less than a minute and resulted in over a thousand blows from the increased adrenaline and Netero's understanding of the situation. The King continued to take the full-brunt of Netero's attacks and to detect the subtle bias within them, eventually reaching his target and severing Netero's left arm at the shoulder. With the arm still flying through the air, the King calmly sits down and asks Netero again for his name. Now missing two limbs, Netero simply smiles and addresses him as the King of Ants, asking him if he thought two arms were necessary for prayer. He states that prayer is an action of the heart, suddenly summoning the Zero Hand of his 100-Type Guanyin Bodhisattva directly behind the King.

Two of the hands gently envelop the King with a firm grasp, and it's revealed that the thing Killua had been wary of earlier in the forest was Netero focusing the entirety of his aura for this attack. Netero's eyes go white, and as he raises his middle finger, an enormous blast fires from the goddess' mouth straight down upon the trapped King. Once the smoke and rubble begins to clear, a severely weakened Netero barely has the strength to hold himself up, his body much thinner than before. Walking out through the smoke, the King commends Netero and compliments the power of his attack, with only superficial damage done to his body from Netero's Zero Hand.

Chap 297 - Netero warning Meruem and revealing his name

Netero warning Meruem and revealing his name

Netero sits in disbelief, but the King reminds him that he was born to rule the world and that generations of evolution have been building up to his arrival. He continues with the idea that Netero is just one individual of his species, whereas he has complete responsibility for the future of his species. As Netero sits in despair, the King informs that because the individuality of humans disrupts the Ants' ordered system to such a degree, he will no longer use them for reproduction, promising to put aside a settlement where humans can live and reconsider the amount he will take to use as food. He assures him that his fight wasn't pointless, but demands that he finally tell him his name. Netero simply laughs and says he's not alone, instructing him not to underestimate humanity and at last uttering his name: Meruem.
