Much to Pouf's surprise, Meruem sprouts wings, and asks where the palace is. Meruem states that whatever he desired lay in the palace. Pouf realizes that in reality, it would take 2-3 minutes for Meruem to reach the palace. However, by seeing all the humans lined up, Meruem would remember that the only purpose they served was food. Pouf enters the palace, looking to kill Komugi. However, Knuckle punches him; hidden by Meleoron, to activate Hakoware. Palm observes Pouf since she can do it from anywhere. Pouf senses the attack on his clone, but does not know who it was (since Knuckle was hidden). Meruem notices the Hakoware on Pouf. Pouf explains that someone attacked his clone. Meanwhile, the members of the extermination team become aware of the fact that the King lives on.

Meruem emerging fully revived by Pouf and Youpi

Meruem emerges more powerful than ever after absorbing Pouf and Youpi's cells, with both overjoyed at this. However, they sense that Meruem is disturbed about something, and remind him of the food that awaits him at the palace. Meruem speaks of a voice he heard call his name, though he doesn't know whether it was real or a dream. From this, they learn that he's suffering from memory loss, unable to remember why he is there.

Meruem orders them to explain what happened, confused why they look different. Pouf says they sent out their segments to eliminate any enemies they find, but Meruem moves his tail toward Pouf's face, recognizing the lie and asking them if he ate them. Both Royal Guards assure him that it was their own decision, and Meruem tells them to explain things further. Pouf asks him if he can remember their original forms and the first day they served him. Meruem is unsure, only recognizing them but retaining no memory of events. Pouf theorizes that his memories are temporarily lost because of the explosion, explaining Meruem's duel against Netero, and the suicidal bomb he used to try to finish him off.

The word "duel" triggers Meruem's memories of playing a board game, but not fully. As Pouf continues to explain the events leading up to the present and tells him they had no choice but to sacrifice part of themselves to revive him, his clone secretly rushes back toward the palace, excited with the chance it's been given. If he can eliminate Komugi, Meruem will have no way to remember her. He has a 20-minute window in which to do it before Meruem runs back to the palace.

But much to Pouf's surprise, Meruem suddenly sprouts wings and asks where the palace is, stating that the answer he desires lies there.
