Deadline (()(げん)()()()()()()()(), Kigen) is the 311th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

In Area D underground, Palm tells Ikalgo that Killua believes Komugi is important to the King somehow, but that the Royal Guards possibly don't agree with one another, citing Pitou's protection of the girl and Pouf's attempt to kill her. Ikalgo is adamantly against the theory, wondering how the guards' opinions could differ, but Palm reminds him that both of them sided with humans over the Ants. She points out that they all still feel loyalty to the King, but some think they're helping him by protecting Komugi and others by killing her.

Chap 311 - Palm explaining her plan to Ikalgo

Palm explaining her plan to Ikalgo

Ikalgo gives in to her logic, but goes back to his question of how she knows they're safe. She mentions that they haven't been caught or killed, even though the King first used his En 20 minutes ago. If he had seen her carrying someone on her back, he would have come for her first. But Palm guesses that her hair prevented him from seeing that she was carrying Komugi. Ikalgo doesn't understand her point, but she clarifies that if they cover her with something, it means the King's En can't find her.

Ikalgo panics, and wonders, if she's planning on leaving Knuckle and Meleoron, to die. Palm says she does plan to negotiate, but also wants to buy time, stressing how important it is to keep Komugi hidden. Ikalgo asks her for how long, and she says until the King is dead, shocking Ikalgo as he wonders how they can know when that will be. Palm confidently says it won't take long, saying he will be dead in only a couple of hours. The two hide Komugi in a storage crate in a large warehouse, and Palm tells Ikalgo they can now negotiate, using their leverage but not pushing the King too much.

Chap 311 - Human cruelty and malice

Human cruelty and malice

It's stated that humans are no different from the Ants, having the ability to be far worse as scenes of war, poverty, and other cruelties are shown. The divide between the rich and poor is stressed, with people protesting on the streets put in stark contrast to those lavish hosting gatherings. A Poor Man's Rose is seen exploding in the middle of a city, and it's revealed that the Rose contains poison, concentrated in the survivors' bodies, slowly decomposing them. In addition, those contaminated can infect others, creating more hosts to spread the poison further and causing a domino effect of death: a weapon devised to be the ultimate evil. As Pouf is seen flying behind Meruem, the former stops and coughs up blood in his hand, looking both shocked and terrified.
