The Zoldycks: Part 4 (ゾルディック
Synopsis[]
Canary leads Gon, Kurapika, and Leorio to the butlers' quarters where five butlers stand outside waiting and all bow to welcome them. Offering tea to their guests and bandaging Gon's injuries, they apologize for their previous hostility and assure them that they will be treated as official guests at Kikyo's request. After sitting down, they are welcomed to the butlers' quarters, and Kurapika asks if they are at the mansion, with Canary replying that they aren't even close. Leorio appreciates their generosity, but reminds them that they are there to see Killua, asking that they be taken up to the mansion. However, Gotoh assures them it won't be necessary since Killua is on his way there.
With the three happy to hear the news, Gotoh suggests that they pass the time by playing a game, suddenly tossing a coin into the air and catching it with one of his hands. He asks them which hand holds the coin, and all three point to his left. After confirming this, he says that he will now do it more quickly, again flipping the coin and catching it with one of his hands. Gon answers that the coin is in his left hand, and the butlers are impressed as they applaud Gon's perception. Gotoh then says that it's time to get serious, dramatically increasing the speed of his hands as the three are taken aback by the quick movement. After Leorio is left unsure and guesses his right hand, Gotoh emphasizes that he has known Killua since he was a baby and cares about him as if he were his own son, angrily telling them that he doesn't approve of them taking him away. As the three sit in silence, he asks them to choose which hand holds the coin, and Kurapika says his left. Gotoh opens his hand, and the three see that the coin has been bent.
Gotoh then recounts that Kikyo's voice was barely a whisper and that her heart is breaking at her son's departure, which is all because of them. Gotoh says that he will evaluate them using his rules before Killua arrives and that they cannot refuse. Two of the butlers suddenly pull out large knives, one of whom holds the blade at Canary's throat. Gotoh explains that if they make one mistake, they are out and that if they all make a mistake before Killua arrives, he will tell him that they just left, assuring them that they will be gone. Gon tries to ask something about Killua, but Gotoh immediately silences him, saying that he can barely stand the sight of them and that they will only speak when told to do so.
Gotoh suddenly tosses the coin into the air and moves his hands even faster than before, leaving all three unsure which hand holds the coin. He gives them three seconds to answer, warning them that the butler will slit Canary's throat otherwise. Leorio yells out left, with both Gon and Kurapika answering right. Gotoh reveals that it's in his right hand, removing Leorio from the game. He immediately repeats the process, and neither Gon nor Kurapika is able to tell. After they give each other a look, Kurapika chooses right and Gon left. Gotoh reveals that it's in his left hand and eliminates Kurapika from the game. As the two stare at each other, Gotoh flips the coin to begin the next round, but Gon suddenly tells him to wait. Gotoh catches the coin and says that if he is trying to stall, one of them will receive the knife. However, Gon says that he will do it himself as he asks to borrow Leorio's switchblade. He removes the bandage from his swollen eye and cuts it with the knife.
Kurapika realizes that he cut himself to reduce the swelling, and Gon puts tape around his eye to keep it open, telling Gotoh to start whenever he's ready. Gotoh quickly moves his hands around, but Gon easily sees that it's in his left hand. Slightly impressed, Gotoh stands up from his chair and says that he will increase the difficulty. As two other butlers stand beside him, he flips the coin and the three move all their hands at once, stunning Kurapika and Leorio while Gon continues to concentrate. Gotoh asks which of them has the coin, but Gon chuckles and points to the butler standing behind him, who holds out the coin in his left hand.
As the five butlers applaud and congratulate Gon, Killua suddenly yells out Gon's name and Gon responds. Gotoh smiles and apologizes for taking his joke too far, but adds that it helped pass the time. Leorio checks his watch and is surprised to see that it has, also noting that it didn't seem like a joke at all. With Gon left unsure by Gotoh's cheerful expression, Killua enters the room and says all their names, forgetting Leorio's before getting quickly corrected. Both Gon and Killua jokingly comment on their injured conditions, and the latter says that they need to leave before his mother changes her mind. He then says goodbye to all the butlers and addresses Gotoh specifically, ordering him not to follow him no matter what his mother said. Gotoh bows and tells him to have a good time.
The other three leave, and Gon asks Gotoh if he will miss Killua. Still bowing, Gotoh explains that their duty is to serve their employers, not to become emotionally attached to them. However, Gon sees through his lie as he sticks his tongue out in jest. Gotoh then flips a coin one last time and asks Gon to choose. Gon confidently points to his left, but Gotoh chuckles as he reveals that it's in his right. With Gon left confused, Gotoh tells him that even the most perceptive person can be fooled, asking him to be careful since the world is full of tricks. As Gon stands in silence, Gotoh bows again and asks him to look after Killua.
