The Flesh Collector's Mansion: Part 2 (
Synopsis[]
The shrouded figures keep shooting, but Kurapika reveals chains on his right hand and stops the bullets with his Dowsing Chain on his ring finger. As the other applicants are impressed by his skill, Kurapika dodges the figures' sword strikes and leaps up onto the staircase. After he observes that there are three with guns and six with swords, two figures with swords appear behind him and prepare to strike. Kurapika barely dodges their attacks by jumping onto the large chandelier.
Basho mocks the figures' fighting skills and says that he doesn't even need to use Nen, dodging one of their strikes and punching it in the face with a strong uppercut. As the figure is sent flying back and Basho seems to realize something, Kurapika observes everyone's movements and spots the one behind it all. He quickly jumps down and holds a dagger to Tocino's throat, ordering him to call off the figures in three seconds or else. After Tocino agrees to do it, the figures' suits and swords fall to the floor.
Basho says that he figured Nen was involved and adds that he could tell when he punched one of them, guessing that they were masses of aura. However, he says that he didn't know it was Tocino behind it all, and Kurapika says that he could tell when he saw that Tocino was the only one not getting attacked. He adds that when he jumped onto the chandelier, two of the figures still continued to swing pointlessly at him, which meant that they must have been given the command to attack the person closest to them. He guesses that Tocino is most likely an Emitter since he was able to control eleven masses of aura, but adds that since the range was likely limited to the room, the one controlling the figures had to be among the group.
Tocino smiles and introduces himself, explaining that he is a Hunter and an employee. He asks Kurapika to sheath his dagger and reveals that he was ordered to test the applicants. He admits that he didn't expect to be exposed so quickly and says that the four of them should be able to escape easily enough. Since there are five others in the room, they realize that there's another infiltrator among the group.
Kurapika readies his Dowsing Chain and says that while Tocino is probably trying to sow doubt, he will find out whether there are any other infiltrators. He holds out the ball and chain, first putting it in front of Basho, and then in front of Baise (with the chain staying motionless for both of them). However, when Kurapika puts it in front of Squala, the chain sways back and forth and Kurapika is confident that he is the other infiltrator. Squala says that it doesn't mean anything, but Melody mentions that Squala's heart started to pound once he was pointed out, adding that his heart would have gradually beat faster if the accusation had been false. She says that both Tocino and Squala have the typical melody of a liar, and Basho is convinced by the evidence.
After Squala protests and says that there may be three infiltrators in total, Kurapika uses his chain to test Melody, who uses her own ability to rule out Kurapika. Squala says that he can't trust either of them and that they are just wasting time by arguing with each other. Basho decides to end the discussion once and for all, pulling out a piece a paper and writing a haiku on it. After reading it aloud and while holding the paper in his hand, he punches a chair and causes it to catch fire. He says that the haiku was a dud and mentions that the kind of poetry is found in his native country. He explains that whatever he composes actually happens, saying that the next one counts and writing out on the paper, "If you are a liar / your painful death will be swift / in a trial by fire." He then asks each of the applicants if they are an infiltrator, with Kurapika, Baise, and Melody all passing.
After Tocino quickly admits to being one, Squala finally gives in and says that he has been caught. He introduces himself and says that while he isn't a Hunter, he is a Manipulator who has already given out his orders. The others ask him about the orders, but Squala refuses to tell them since it's a test, assuring them that they won't be able to torture the information out of him. All of a sudden, Baise taps Squala on the shoulder and then kisses him on the lips. This activates her Nen ability, and she explains that she is also a Manipulator, turning anyone she steals a kiss from into a manservant. Squala falls to his knees and begs Baise to step on him more. Baise pulls out a camcorder and orders him to reveal how he used his Nen. With Kurapika and Basho taken aback by the ability, Squala says that he has placed dogs around the mansion, all of which follow his orders. It's then stated that Kurapika, Basho, Baise, and Melody escaped from the mansion.
