September 1st: Part 3 (9(がつ)1(つい)(かち)()()()()()()()③, Kugatsu Tsuitachi (San)) is the 74th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.

Synopsis[]

Kurapika notices something going on with the Underground Auction as many armed Mafia members enter the Cemetery Building. Nervous about the situation, Kurapika notes that armed men are entering the building as Melody starts to contact Dalzollene. Upon hearing this, Dalzollene becomes furious about the situation and tells them to head into the building while he contacts Linssen and the others. Meanwhile, back in the auction house's auditorium, most of the Mafia members are baffled to see the place completely empty.

Kurapika calls Dalzollene and tells him that the whole auction house is empty with no security guards or Mafia clients in it, saying that it's like they all just vanished into thin air. Down in the vault area, Mafia officials also discover that all of the contents of the vault have been stolen, guessing that the intruders made their escape from the roof. They then give out an order to every organization in Yorknew City to be on the lookout for any suspicious blimps, to shoot them down if they spot them, and that the people on board must be brought back alive, promising a huge reward to those who capture them.

Dalzollene declares that they must capture the thieves, telling Kurapika and Melody that he's coming as well and will meet them at the overpass along central square. He then orders Squala to leave five guard dogs stationed at the hotel. Squala agrees and tells Neon's attendants to not leave Neon alone and to not let anyone in or out of the building before they return. As he runs to the agreed spot with Melody, Kurapika says that the reward will cause the Mafia families to fight amongst themselves, and Melody adds that it's already affected Dalzollene.

Chap 74 - Uvogin telling Chrollo that there may be a traitor in the Troupe

Uvogin telling Chrollo that there may be a traitor in the Troupe

At the Phantom Troupe's hideout, Chrollo is seen talking to Uvogin on the phone and asks him if it was empty. Riding in a hot-air balloon with six other Troupe members, Uvogin confirms that the vault was already empty, adding that the items were taken somewhere else according to the auctioneer. He adds that it's as if the Mafia knew that they were coming. Chrollo seems unfazed in his response, but Uvogin stresses that the timing was too perfect and that there may be a Judas among them.

Chrollo assures Uvogin that there isn't and adds that he doesn't even consider Judas to be a traitor. He points out that Judas reportedly betrayed Christ for 30 silver coins, and asks Uvogin what any of them would have to gain by betraying their comrades to the Mafia. Uvogin is reluctantly convinced, and Chrollo continues by saying that the precautions taken by the Mafia were very inadequate if they had an informant, explaining that their security would have been much tighter if they knew that the Troupe was planning to attack.

Chrollo goes on to theorize that the Mafia received a vague tip from a source which one of the higher-ups trusted enough to take seriously. Uvogin replies that he doesn't understand how the information is being spread, but he asks Chrollo what they should do next. Chrollo asks if they know where the merchandise went, and Uvogin says that the auctioneer refused to say even after Feitan (who says he feels most sorry for the man) tortured him severely.

After Chrollo asks if the auctioneer revealed who would know where the items were taken, Uvogin confirms this and goes on to talk about the Ten Dons, the leaders of the Mafia who each has their own turf in ten regions on six continents. He explains that the auction is the one time every year that all ten gather together in one place to discuss matters and issue orders. Finally, he reveals that each don assigns their best bodyguard to a team known as the Shadow Beasts who execute their given orders.

Chrollo then says since the Shadow Beasts weren't part of the security at the auction house, they most likely didn't know that they were coming. Uvogin agrees with Chrollo and says that the Mafia's security was laughably light. Chrollo asks how they moved so many items, and Uvogin replies that one of the Shadow Beasts used no tools and left empty-handed, somehow emptying the 25x25 vault which was completely full of merchandise.

Uvogin says that the tall man calls himself Owl, and Chrollo guesses that he has a Nen ability similar to Shizuku's. He adds that the Mafia must be aware that Nen is being used since 500 guests somehow vanished. As the Mafia members chase after the hot-air balloon, Uvogin smirks and asks if they can fight them, with Chrollo telling them to draw enough attention to lure out the Shadow Beasts.
