A Struggle in the Mist (霧の中の攻防, Kiri no Naka no Kōbō) is the 9th chapter of the Hunter × Hunter manga, written and illustrated by Yoshihiro Togashi.
Synopsis
Many candidates are killed by Hisoka, who is playing as though he is an examiner, and kills people he deems unworthy of becoming a Hunter. A number of other candidates surround him, but using only one card Hisoka kills them all. Kurapika, Leorio, and Cherry are the only ones left. They decide to try splitting up, which they do. However, Leorio comes back holding a long piece of wood and starts attacking Hisoka. Hisoka dodges the attack easily, and comes close to finishing Leorio when Gon arrives to help and hits Hisoka on the head using his fishing rod.
Hisoka turns his back to Leorio and walks towards Gon. Leorio tries to attack Hisoka again, only to receive a heavy punch on his right cheek. Gon charges at Hisoka, but Hisoka effortlessly grabs him by the neck and holds him up in the air. He says that Gon is a good boy because he came back to save his friend. He also assures Gon that both he and Leorio have passed. Hisoka's phone rings and an unknown acquaintance tells him to hurry up. Hisoka takes the unconscious Leorio with him and leaves. Kurapika comes back and finds Gon in a somewhat fearful state, of what just happened.
