Don Gappai (ドン゠ガッパイ, Don Gappai) is an antagonist in the video game Hunter × Hunter: Each One's Determination. He is the head of the Gappai Family and the Four Heavenly Kings. He appears in Gon and Killua's route, alongside Hisoka's.[1]
Appearance[]
Don Gappai is an elderly old man with a brown complexion, gray hair, and a fat physique. Furthermore, the top of his head is partially bald. He also has a gray mustache. He wears a black suit with a white undershirt and a fuchsia bowtie.[1]
Personality[]
When talking to his own men, Don Gappai has a calm personality and is shown to be overly confident. However, when his own life is at risk, he demeans the beasts Nino brought to Whale Island and becomes easily erratic. He is also jealous of the Nostrade Family.[1]
Background[]
According to his Cyber Mobile description, Don Gappai is a mafia boss specializing in the likes of organ trafficking. He aimed to become one of the Ten Dons. However, from Light Nostrade's sudden rise in power, he was unable to join their ranks. Prior to the game's events, Don Gappai would form the Four Heavenly Kings, consisting of Rorgo, Sansho, Nino, and Sadaso. It is implied Sadaso had only joined recently after leaving Heavens Arena.[1]
While Sansho and Rorgo dealt with matters in Sunaka, Don Gappai, Nino, and Sadaso followed Neon to Whale Island. There, they planned on capturing her and the villagers to sell off via human trafficking. This would also allow for the Gappai Family to take the Nostrade Family's place in power, allowing for Gappai to join the Ten Dons.[1]

Each One's Determination[]
Note: Events occurring in Each One's Determination are not canon material.
In Gon and Killua's fifth chapter, Don Gappai, Nino, and Sadaso arrived at Whale Island. They begin setting up their plan by sneaking the various Magical and Fantastic Beasts Nino had trapped in his photographs onto the island. A few days later, they release them throughout. While the abundance of Noggin Lugging Tortoises cause a thick fog throughout, the Six-legged Flying Beasts and Man-faced Apes attack the villagers. This allows Nino and Sadaso to catch them properly.[1]
However, Shachmono uses his Eleven Black Children Nen ability to distract some of the Man-faced Apes. Furthermore, unbeknownst to the group, Hisoka arrives at the island with Shizuku. Thus, in one of the island's caves, Don Gappai sends Nino and Sadaso out to investigate and find Neon. When the two men show concern for their boss' safety, he claims he will be fine as long as the guarding beasts remain nearby.[1]
Sometime after this, Hisoka arrives at the caves and begins slaughtering the beasts surrounding the cave. Don Gappai calls for one of Donal's Majtani clones to defend him from Hisoka. Said clone is easily defeated. Hisoka then directs his attention towards Gappai. Noting him to be physically weak, he demands the remaining Heavenly Kings' locations. Fearing for his life, Don Gappai claims two of them to be on the island, and Hisoka then kills him. Shizuku proceeds to clean up the mess after.[1]
Trivia[]
- The term 'Gappai' in Japanese means forehead. This may be a joke on his balding appearance.[2]
