Donal (ドーナル, Doonaru) is an antagonist in the video game Hunter × Hunter: Each One's Determination who works under Rorgo and provides the Four Heavenly Kings with Majtani clones. He appears in Leorio's route.[1]

Appearance[]

Donal is an elderly old man with olive skin, yellow eyes, and an elongated nose. While the top of his head is bald, he has a black mustache. He is also fairly frail due to his age. Donal wears a white lab coat, a white button-up, and a blue tie.[1]

Personality[]

He is a selfish elderly man who values his research regarding poisons and synthetic humans. The latter of these is his main priority. He is an intellectual mad scientist who has a tendency to ramble to himself. He is described as "all talk" by Rorgo.[1]

Background[]

Donal is the head of a research facility that looks into the likes of medicines, rare medical plants, and synthetic humans. A few years before the game events, Donal came across a poverty-stricken Hari after escaping with the Madan's Book. He decides to hire her and takes the book for himself. At some point, Donal would learn Nen and work under Rorgo. Donal was tasked with creating various clones. It is implied that Donal helped Majtani escape from prison so that his DNA could be used as a base. He also equips the original Majtani with cybernetic gear, as claimed by the latter.[1]

Right before the game events, Donal discovers that Hari had run off with the Madan's Book in her possession. Due to it being fundamental in his research, he sends various henchmen out to track her and the book down.[1]

Plot[]

Each One's Determination[]

Note: Events occurring in Each One's Determination are not canon material.

Hari first mentions Donal. After properly introducing herself to Leorio, she explains that she is escaping from Donal to prevent him from having the Madan's Book. Later in the night, though, one of the henchmen he experimented on captures Hari and proceeds to blind her. This forces her to stay in the hospital as Donal continues to search for her. In Leorio's second chapter, he encounters one of Donal's Majtani clones. The clone claims not to recall his past. Leorio decides to have said clone stay at the hospital, both unaware of it being made by Donal.[1]

In Leorio's fourth chapter, Donal is shown alongside Machi attempting to track Hari down. He comments he didn't expect her to be in "a place like this" and that his henchman managed to blind her. However, he is shocked to see her location suddenly change, implying him to be using a Nen ability. As he says this, Machi comments it should only take a few more days.[1]

Later on, as Leorio is about to give Machi the Madan's Book, she points out Donal in the hospital hallway. They notice him sitting by himself and then leaving. Leorio decides to follow him. He tracks him down to a semi-basement research facility dedicated to clones. Inside, Donal is shown being lectured by Rorgo. The two discuss Donal's cloning project, the latter demanding he finish his quota. As he leaves, Donal complains to himself and orders a guard to watch the entrance.[1][2]

After Leorio defeats said guard, he decides to confront Donal himself and reveals he has the Madan's Book. Donal demands he give it to him. Leorio refuses, which results in the two fighting. After being defeated, Donal activates the building's self-destruct sequence. This results in Leorio barely managing to escape and Donal dying under the debris.[1][2]

Abilities & Powers[]

Donal is a highly intellectual man knowledgeable in the likes of biology, synthetic humans, poisons, and plantae. He also uses the likes of henchmen to do his bidding, such as going after Hari or guarding one of his hideouts. He also seemingly has access to rare flora such as darkness flowers. For the Four Heavenly Kings, Donal creates various Majtani clones. They act as their primary soldiers.[1]

Nen[]

Donal is a Nen user, and it's implied to have used it when searching for Hari. In battle, he uses the ability "Effect Risk Hazard," depicting him clawing at his opponent's aura. Its specific attributes are unknown.[1]

Trivia[]

  • Donal's exhausted sprite is incorrectly colored, missing a few pixels at his lab coat's pen. This causes the background to show through.[2]
