Chairman Netero confirms that even if Gon refuses to accept the results, he won't be able to do anything as he is now a Hunter and it will stay that way once his decision is made. The unconscious Gon is being escorted out of the room. Satotz then gives Hanzo his word that he will take care of Gon once he awakes. Killua then approaches Hanzo asking him why did he decided to lose on purpose as there are plenty of ways to make Gon surrender without killing him, upon saying that all other examinees look at Hanzo having the same thought as Killua then Hanzo state that he never felt any hatred towards Gon even after torturing him, he couldn't be able to fight him anymore that is why he gave up. The next fight begins between Hisoka and Bodoro, Hisoka mocks Bodoro, then Bodoro charges towards him.

Gon finally awakes, besides him is Satotz. Then the two talks to each other as Satotz extends his hand to congratulate Gon after giving some advice. Gon refuses to shake Satotz hand as he didn't want to win that way. Then Satotz tries to motivate him, Gon who is still having trouble with how weak he is and continues to feel sorry for himself. Able to grasp Gon's situation, Satotz tells Gon that no matter what he's thinks he cannot change the fact that he is already a Hunter then further explains the reason why he was able to go this far, then he explains about the Hunter License and states that he can do whatever he wants with it such as keeping, throwing, or even selling the license, then further explains the importance and worth of the Hunters License as he can never be able to obtain another one once he passed the Hunters exam. Upon hearing Satotz, Gon states that he needs to decide on what kind of Hunter he wanted to be, Satotz then gives Gon another motivational speech and tells him the importance of friendship. Gon asks Satotz what kind of work he did at the beginning after he became a Hunter. Satotz reveals that his field is restoration and protection of ancient ruins, then tells Gon about the man who inspired him to be better at his field and wanted to meet him to thank him then he asks Gon if he is familiar with the Ruins of Lurka, Upon hearing this Gon realizes that Satotz inspiration is his father, Ging Freeccs. Satotz presents Gon's Hunter License to which he accepted and finally shakes Satotz handshake, then states that he will use his License once he repaid all of his friends who help him become a Hunter.

It was revealed that Gon slept for a day and that the Tournament is finally over, then Gon asks Satotz who fails the exam, in a brief moment of silence Gon's heart throb's as he sees a glimpse of Killua in his imagination. Satotz then informs Gon about the matches. Hisoka and Bodoro's match is completely one-sided in favor of Hisoka as he just toys with Bodoro, despite Bodoro's courage he did not stand a chance against Hisoka as he surrenders when Hisoka whispers something in his ear. Pokkle immediately surrenders his match after Hanzo warns him that he will do the same method as he did with Gon, Leorio pleads with the committee to postpone his match with Bodoro so that his opponent can be able to recover from the injuries he took from Hisoka and Netero granted his wish. Killua being arrogant purposely surrenders the match against Pokkle without even fighting him. By forfeiting that match, Killua made a terrible miscalculation, Gitarackur being the opponent of Killua remove the pins in his face and finally reveals his true identity, Killua immediately recognizes his brother Illumi.

Pass! × Fail? × Exam Over (合格!×失格?×試験終了, Gōkaku! × Shikkaku? × Shiken Shūryō) is the 29th episode of the original Hunter × Hunter anime. It first aired on May 27th, 2000.

Overview

Hanzo and Gon continue fighting. Gon still won't concede and Hanzo is forced to accept defeat. He decides he'd rather lose than kill Gon, because he likes him. Gon is knocked unconscious during the match and wakes up to find the matches are over. Satotz explains he's a Hunter, Hisoka defeated Bodoro, Hanzo defeated Pokkle, Killua conceded a match to Pokkle before facing his brother Illumi disguised as Gittarackur.
