Machi waiting for Hisoka HXH 99 EP41

Machi waiiting for Hisoka

On his way out of the arena, Hisoka meets with Machi, who is waiting for him. Machi patches up both of Hisoka's damaged arms in his room, chastising him for his carelessness. He admires her handiwork, but she only cares about collecting payment from him for her work. He pays her immediately and then asks her to dinner with him, but she quickly leaves without another word.

After Gon's two months of not being able to practice, Nen are up, Wing considers his promise fulfilled and allows him and Killua to train alongside Zushi. He asks Gon to demonstrate his Ten since he can still practice that daily. Upon seeing it, Zushi is impressed with Gon's progress and the promise string around Gon's finger breaks.

Gon Killua & Zushi training HXH 99 EP41

Gon, Killua and Zushi practicting his Nen

Killua asks Wing about Hisoka's magic and why Killua isn't able to see Hisoka's aura, to which Wing briefly introduces them to the concepts of In and Gyo, leaving the boys annoyed at having, even more, to learn in their short time left with Wing. The three boys then practice Ren, and once they've reached a level Wing is content with, Wing informs them they'll start their Gyo training the next day.

Gon and Killua head out for the night, with Killua exhausted. Instead of returning to his room, Gon heads out to the woods to continue training. From his room high up in Heavens Arena, Hisoka watches Gon. The next morning, Hisoka calls Gon on the phone in his room and says that even though Gon has yet to defeat anyone on the 200th floor, he now wants to fight Gon after seeing him using Ren the night prior, leaving Gon excited.

Zushi astounded by Gon and Killua's master over Ren

At their training with Wing and Zushi, Wing is astounded at Gon and Killua's ability to master Ren overnight and agrees to start training for Hatsu. He tells the boys about the six Hatsu categories, and Killua asks if there's a way to tell which category would be best for them. Wing introduces them to the Water Divination test, setting a glass of water down in front of them with a leaf. Wing puts his hands around the glass and performs Ren, and the water overflows, revealing him to be an Enhancer. Gon does the same and gets the same result as Wing; Zushi is revealed to be a Manipulator; Killua is shown to be a Transmuter. Wing instructs them to practice this for the next four weeks.

On a random day when they aren't scheduled to have a lesson, Gon visits Wing and shows him his progress in Water Divination. Wing suspects something is more behind Gon's visit and wonders if it's about Hisoka. He tells Gon that Gon isn't ready to fight Hisoka, but that he won't stop him if that's truly what Gon wants to do, so long as Gon promises not to push himself beyond his limits. Gon happily agrees.

Hisoka calls Gon again to ask about his decision, and Gon says their match will be on June 10th, leaving Hisoka excited.

Gon returning Hisoka his badge

Trying to catch Hisoka off guard, Gon moves to strike, but then moves out of the way and flips up one of the giant stone slabs of the arena floor, shattering it to pieces and launching them at Hisoka. While Hisoka is busy deflecting all the stone pieces coming at him, he loses track of Gon and can sneak up and punch him in the face.

Smiling, Hisoka finally moves, walking towards Gon. Gon meets him halfway and offers him back his badge from the Hunter Exam. Hisoka accepts it.

Characters in Order of Appearance[]

Manga & Anime Differences[]

  •  The part where Hisoka tastes his severed arm is shortened for censorship reasons.
  • Only in the 1999 anime adaptation does Hisoka break his promise to fight Gon before he wins a fight on the 200th floor. In the manga and in the 2011 anime adaptation, Hisoka follows through on what was agreed.

Trivia[]

  • In YuYu Hakusho, Yusuke used a tactic where he shattered part of the ground in the face of Sensui to impede his vision followed by an attack. Gon used a very similar tactic in this episode.
