Overview[]
Leorio tries to help Gon buy Greed Island. They need 8.9 billion, so they go to a flea market and use Gyo to buy items with Nen. They meet Zepile, a professional seller. With money to pay for information, Leorio calls to tell them that two Phantom Troupe members are in the city.
Synopsis[]
Gon receives the money transfer for one hundred million jenny to his account, and him, Killua, and Leorio head to purchase the Southernpiece Catalog. After buying the catalog, they search it for Greed Island before going off to find a way to earn money for the game.
While walking among vendors in the Bull Market, Gon gets a strange feeling from one of the items up for auction, a Ben's knife, that a particular vendor has. He asks how much it is before being informed that it is a silent auction and needs to write down a bid for the item. Killua recognizes the knife and asks Leorio to try and haggle for it. They win the knife, and Killua explains the history of the item and its value. Gon claims he didn't know anything about the item, but after the feeling he got from looking at it, he examined it with Gyo and could see a faint aura around it. Killua also tries the same thing and sees the aura, remembering how Wing told them that people passionate about their craft would use Nen without even knowing it. They decide to use this information to view the items at different vendors with Gyo, which hopefully will be a foolproof way for them to make the money they need if they can buy low-cost items worth a lot. Leorio, unable to use Gyo, heads back to their hotel instead.
Killua and Gon bid on and win three items that they saw auras around, remarking that they missed out on a vase because a man named Zepile kept outbidding them for it. They take their newly bought items to an antique dealer, who appraises two out of the three items as being quite high-value. However, the dealer appraises the last of their items, a statue, as worth less than they originally bought it for, although he says the wood box it came in is worth a bit. He offers the boys a deal for all three of the items. Still, Zepile enters the establishment and exclaims that the appraiser is lying to them about the statue's worth, claiming that it is actually a Wooden Vault and, if genuine, will contain a ton of treasure.
The boys thank Zepile for his help and sit down with him at a restaurant, only to learn that he was the man who kept outbidding them previously. Zepile asks the boys how they knew the value of the items they bid on and is shocked to hear that they actually know anything about the items they were obtaining. Seeing no harm in it, Gon and Killua explain their real reasoning for choosing the items to Zephile. Outside the restaurant, Milluki walks by, having made it to Yorknew City.
Zephile gets curious about why the boys need so much money, and Killua agrees to answer him if they can play a game where they each take turns asking each other one question at a time. During this game, Killua inquires as to why Zepile would want the statue he outbid them for if it's apparently worthless, and Zepile reveals that it is actually a counterfeit that he made; he claims that he felt bad about the poor craftsmanship of his counterfeits and tries to buy them back whenever he sees them somewhere. Zepile ends up offering to work for the boys as their personal appraiser, and they agree to take him on, but give him one test first, having him open the Wooden Vault for them. They head to Zepile's room, and he opens the vault for them, revealing the treasure inside.
Zepile brings the boys and their wooden vault and its treasure to the Preview Market, where a crowd of people immediately takes an interest in it. However, a man from the crowd starts casting doubt on its authenticity to make the other people wary of buying it and hopefully drive down its price. Zepile goes up to argue with the man, but the man makes a solid argument about the item possibly being tampered with, which Zepile has trouble disputing. The crowd is further doubtful of the item when Zepile can't produce a certificate of authenticity for it.
Gon approaches them and asks the man about other types of scams and tricks that people use, declaring himself the owner of the item and curious about ways that people might try to fool him. Many people in the crowd end up liking Gon, and afterward, Zepile states that they may have a decent chance of the item getting sold at the auction, depending. During their conversation, Leorio calls Gon and informs him that someone tipped them off about the location of two of the Spiders that they're looking for and even provided a photo of Machi and Nobunaga in the wild as proof. Gon and Killua run off, entrusting the sale of their item to Zepile.
