Pursuit × Escape × Spiders on the Run (追跡×逃亡×走り出した蜘蛛, Tsuiseki × Tōbō × Hashiridashita Kumo) is the 65th episode of the original Hunter × Hunter anime and the 3rd episode of the Yorknew City OVA series. It was released on DVD on February 20th, 2002.

Gon and Kurapika follow the Phantom Troupe members while they chase after the Nen-copy of the scarlet eyes. The two are unaware, however, that three of the Spiders are following them, confronting Gon and Kurapika, who are hiding in the shadows.
Synopsis[]
Melody listens for the Spiders
Killua, while on a rooftop scouting out the area near the Phantom Troupe's hideout, hears a noise approaching and hides. Melody appears on the rooftop, and although she can't see him, she can hear his heartbeat and tells him not to be afraid of her. After recognizing her voice, Killua shows himself, and the two have an amicable conversation while meeting for the first time in person. Melody uses her enhanced hearing abilities to listen to the surrounding area from the rooftop and hears Chrollo speaking with a group of other Spiders as they walk. Although she can't actually tell who they are from that distance or what they are saying, she can tell there are six of them and suggests to Killua that they should follow the group from a distance, as she won't be able to hear them anymore if they get too far away. Killua is very impressed by her hearing and leaves with her.
The two run off to tail the group of Spiders, and Melody tells Killua that Kurapika must be in a desperate situation to ask her to help him, considering how much Kurapika prefers to work alone. Melody also tells Killua that she can tell he is an assassin based on how quiet he is while he moves and compliments him on it. While talking, Melody suddenly stops to listen to their surroundings, can make out the group of Spiders' footsteps from everyone else's nearby in the city, and pinpoint roughly where they are. Killua is once again amazed by her abilities. He leaves temporarily to get closer to the group and see if they are actually the Spiders, promising to return.
Gon talks to Killua on the phone
Still in the car with Kurapika and Leorio, Gon gets a phone call from Killua on his cell. Killua describes the group of Spiders he sees to Gon, having caught up to them, and notes that both Shizuku and Nobunaga are among them. Although he has never seen Chrollo before, Killua assumes from his position and appearance that he is the boss of the Spiders. Kurapika asks for Gon's phone and speaks to Killua, asking for the location of the group of Spiders and, judging by what he sees on his map, guesses that they are headed to the metro nearby. He asks Killua to follow them if it is crowded enough there for Killua to hide, and Killua agrees to try. Kurapika asks Leorio to change directions, and he complies, turning the car around.
The Spiders catch a train at the metro, and Melody gets in the same train car as them, with Killua in the last car talking to Kurapika on the phone. Judging by the station, the Spiders are heading to, Kurapika worries that the Spiders may be heading for the Hotel Beitacle. At the hotel, Squala talks with Eliza on the phone, and they have a heartfelt discussion that leaves them both blushing. Because the line is busy, Kurapika is unable to reach Squala.
As the Spiders exit the train car, Melody follows them off and discretely calls Killua from her pocket to inform him, and he gets off as well. Killua calls Kurapika to tell him, who then tries once again to phone Squala. Squala finally answers, and Kurapika warns him about the Spiders likely heading for the hotel, and Squala rallies up his dogs and leaves the hotel in a hurry, taking the fake Scarlet Eyes with him.
The Spiders arrive at the station
Kurapika's car pulls up to the station where the Spiders will be arriving, parking far from the station exit to help conceal Kurapika's hostile aura. Kurapika asks Gon to distract the Spiders somehow to give Kurapika enough time to attack them. The Spiders come out of the station and talk about getting to the hotel when Kortopi informs them that the fake Scarlet Eyes are on the move. Squala speeds off in a car, and the Spiders break out into a sprint to run after him as Kortopi senses the fake eyes suddenly moving very quickly. Because of traffic, Leorio says it would be pointless to try and follow the Spiders by car, so Kurapika gets out of the car and runs after them on foot, with Gon soon running after him as well. Gon tries to get Kurapika to stop and listen to his plan, but he keeps running. Kurapika gets a call from Killua and informs him about what is happening. Killua also tries to talk some sense into Kurapika, but Kurapika hangs up on him.
Chrollo, Shizuku, and Machi face the people following them
Killua and Melody run after Kurapika as Killua worries about him and Gon. Squala gets stuck in a traffic jam. Chrollo becomes aware of someone following them and informs the other Spiders, who were too focused on their current mission to have noticed. Chrollo tells Nobunaga, Kortopi, and Pakunoda to go after the eyes while he, Machi, and Shizuku all stop in their tracks to face the people following them. Noticing them suddenly stop, Kurapika and Gon dart off and hide, and the Spider trio can't get a good look at them before they disappear, but manage to see where they went and hid. Kurapika's eyes go scarlet as he readies himself to deal with the Spiders.
