Overview[]
Kurapika contracts a fever while Killua and Gon attend the Southernpiece Auction.
Synopsis[]
In an abandoned building where Kurapika's group has set up their stuff to avoid being found by the Spiders, Gon informs Killua about Kurapika's very high fever. He also tells Killua that he almost wishes it would continue, just so Kurapika would stop going after the Spiders, but Killua scolds him for this. Leorio goes to visit Kurapika's room, who is being watched over by Melody. Zepile suggests they call a doctor, but Leorio insists it would be too dangerous to let anyone else know where they are while the Spiders are hunting them. Kurapika briefly jolts up in bed in a daze while his friends around him panic at his sudden awakening.
While Gon and Killua talk about Kurapika in another room, Killua checks his laptop to see if the Spiders have put a bounty on their heads and is disappointed to see otherwise. Killua and Gon then plan for the upcoming Greed Island Auction, intending to have Leorio watch over Kurapika all the while. Killua insists that Gon tell him his plans for Greed Island, and after hearing them, Killua is confident that they will be successful and agrees to go along with Gon's ideas.
Kurapika can finally sit up, and Melody puts him in a sitting position in the corner of the room, insisting it is better for his heart rate. Leorio leaves Kurapika in Melody's care, cryptically noting that Kurapika is fighting off something more than just a fever, and Kurapika's eyes turn scarlet.
Zepile, Gon, and Kurapika arrive at the auction hall dressed in suits. Zepile gets distracted admiring a beautiful vase, and tells the boys to go on ahead without him. Kurapika and Gon arrive early at the room where Greed Island will be auctioned off and are immediately greeted by Phinks and Feitan. The two boys try to run, but they don't get far before the men corner them out in the hall. However, Feitan tells the boys they do not intend to harm them.
At the Spider's hideout, several of the remaining Spiders, namely Shizuku, Franklin, and Machi, sit by a memorial with candles for Pakunoda. Franklin discusses with the others how strong Nen can remain even after a person has died and worries that Kurapika's malice will be strong enough to kill their weakened boss even if they should kill Kurapika. At the auction hall, Phinks gives an explanation similar to Gon and Killua's. He also informs them of Pakunoda's death when Gon asks about her. Killua worries about the danger Kurapika is in now that the Spiders certainly know his secrets. Shalnark joins the others at the hideout to discuss potentially finding someone who could exorcise Kurapika's Nen from Chrollo.
Kurapika, in his room with Melody and Leorio, briefly regains consciousness, but keeps talking, repeating the same conversation before passing out again; Melody claims this to be a result of him blaming himself for Squala's death and the failure of their job.
The auction commences, and the JoyStation Console running with Greed Island is brought out. A large man with a hammer demonstrates the console and game's strength and strikes the console with the hammer. No damage is done to it as a result of the powers of the game. The Auctioneer explains who Jeitsari is to the crowd and how two players have already died in the game, resulting in them dying in real life.
The bidding begins, and Gon accidentally doubles the bid without realizing what the hand signal he gives means. Killua and Zepile worry that they'll be jailed for being unable to pay the amount Gon bid. However, both Battera and Milluki outbid the boys, and the console and game get sold to Battera in the end. Milluki is furious over his loss.
After the auction, Gon and Killua approach Battera and offer their services as Hunters to help him beat the game. Battera initially laughs them off, explaining that only a certain number of players can play at a time without a memory card. Gon already tells him about the save data and rings they have for the game, and Battera instructs Tsezguerra to test the boys. Tsezguerra asks to see their Ren, and after their demonstration, Tsezguerra refuses the boys, telling Battera that they'll die immediately in the game.
Elsewhere, the car transporting the briefcase containing the JoyStation Console and Greed Island is attacked by Phinks and Feitan, and the two steal the briefcase.
In Kurapika's room, Kurapika stands, struggling, and tells Melody and Leorio that Nen can be even stronger after a person dies, meaning he cannot fail his mission. Leorio worries that Kurapika is going to do something rash. Melody asks if Kurapika can see something they can't, while Kurapika faintly sees Pakunoda and Uvogin standing before him.
