Electricity × Aura × Special Attack (電気×オーラ×必殺技, Denki × Ōra × Hissatsuwaza) is the 72nd episode of the original Hunter × Hunter anime and the 2nd episode of the Greed Island OVA series. It was released on DVD on February 5th, 2003.

Overview[]

Killua and Gon train individually to develop special techniques in order to prove themselves strong enough to play Greed Island. Kurapika and Melody say goodbye to their friends before leaving Yorknew City for work.

Synopsis[]

Gon and Killua argue with Battera about not being accepted onto his Greed Island team of Hunters. Tsezguerra explains that he knows best about who is suitable to enter Greed Island, as he has been back and forth between the game and the real world many times, and shows the boys his ring to prove it. Battera tells the boys about the exam he'll be advertising to bring in potential Hunters for his team in four days. Although Gon is frustrated at the rejection, he and Killua agree to compete.

Back at their rooms, Killua informs Gon that they really need to work on their Nen, particularly their Hatsu if they hope to have any chance of getting a spot on Battera's team. Killua tells Gon to try and come up with a Nen ability that would work well for an Enhancer, and not be life-threatening like Kurapika's. Killua explains how he already knows what he wants his Nen ability to be; he needs to practice it and refuses to tell Gon what it is for the time being.

Elsewhere, Feitan, Machi, Phinks, Shizuku, Kortopi, Shalnark, and Franklin gather around the stolen JoyStation Console and boot up the system. Feitan, who had been sitting directly in front of the console, disappears into the game. Phinks takes Feitan's seat and tells the other Spiders that two more of them can join him and Feitan on the available save, before disappearing into the game himself.

Kurapika talking with Gon HXH 99 EP72

Kurapika talks with Gon about developing his Nen

At Heavens Arena, Wing gets a call from Gon who asks Wing about Hatsu. Wing tells him that Enhancers don't really need Nen Abilities, and that Gon should just focus on continuing to work on his Ten and Ren. He also warns Gon to never come up with something as risky and Kurapika's ability. In a flashback, Gon asks Kurapika, who is now properly clothed and sitting up, how he is feeling, and Kurapika claims to be better now, but Gon is highly doubtful of this. Kurapika asks Gon about the results of the Southernpiece Auction and the game they were looking for, and Gon expresses his worries over how difficult the game will be if he doesn't have a Nen ability as strong as Kurapika's. After asking about Kurapika's training, Kurapika goes into a detailed explanation of what he did to learn to conjure chains. On the phone, Gon insists to Wing that he'll need a Nen ability for an upcoming exam and doesn't have a lot of time to practice. Wing is confident that Gon will be able to come up with a Nen ability in the available time, but gives Gon only vague advice on how to go about it.

Killua trains in his own room after putting a sign on his door to keep Gon out. Killua stands and his eyes turn purple as he focuses on his hand which is surrounded by aura, before taking out a taser and tasing his own hand. Killua then holds his two index fingers close to each other and is able to generate a bit of electricity between them on his own. As the sky dusks, Gon is still struggling with what to do, and recalls when he asked Kurapika to be his teacher, who ultimately turned Gon down because he would need to depart Yorknew City with his boss, and told Gon to ask Wing instead.

HxH99 EP72 Killua Hatsu Training

Killua generates more electricity between his hands

Gon begs Wing over the phone to give him some hints on what to do, and Wing finally relents after Gon keeps yelling at him. Wing tells Gon to, instead of just presenting his normal Ren like he did to Tsezguerra, show everything he has all at once. It's nighttime by the time Gon starts to physically practice, but even then he hits a roadblock when he can't understand how he might go about using contradicting types of Nen, like Ren and Zetsu, at the same time. However, he is still and angry and determined after replaying Tsezguerra's condescending words in his head. Killua, on the other hand, is able to produce a large amount of electricity between his hands in his room, although this leaves his physically exhausted.

After some further consideration, Gon decides to use Gyo to focus his aura into his fist and then restrict the aura from the rest of his body, using Ten and Zetsu. Gon is able to generate a large enough amount of aura in his fist that it is practically explosive, and the force of its release throws him backwards. Killua, who is able to hear Gon from his room next door, becomes more competitive with his training as he hears Gon starting to succeed.

Senritsu HXH 99 EP72

Melody says goodbye to Leorio

Leorio goes to Kurapika's now empty room and recalls going to the airport to say goodbye to Kurapika and Melody. In a flashback at the airport, after Kurapika and Leorio say goodbye, Kurapika goes on ahead, but Melody stays behind to speak with Leorio. After listening to Leorio's heartbeat, Melody tells Leorio that he has the best heartbeat in the whole city, and encourages him to become a teacher. As Melody turns to leave, Leorio stops her, and although embarrassed about doing so, asks Melody to look out for Kurapika.

Zepile returns to Gon with his earnings and Gon now has enough money to repurchase his Hunter License from the pawn shop. Gon repeatedly thanks Zepile for his work before the two part ways.

With Kurapika gone, Leorio and Gon are both left continuously worrying about Kurapika and how he'll fare in the future.
