Note: Events occurring in Altar of Dragon Vein do not constitute canon material. Furthermore, some events may slightly differ depending on the current player character.
Gon and Killua find themselves at the Forest Ruins after Romaria tells them to investigate the ruins. When they enter, they are met by two rows of three vertically lined pillars on either side and a door in front of them. Killua tries opening the door, but the door won't budge an inch. Killua then suggests that it seems like no one has been able to open the door for a while because it's covered in moss.[1]
A few seconds later, they are startled by Sabaki, who enters the Forest Ruins and confronts them, shouting at Gon and Killua to escape the door and that they can't open it before asking them who they are. Sabaki then attacks Gon and Killua with a quick swing of his blades after they don't step away from the door. Gon pulls out his fishing rod and begins suspecting that Sabaki is getting in the way of the investigation.[1]
Sabaki then notices that they are Hunters and that the government has sent them to the Forest Ruins to investigate there after mistakenly thinking Gon and Killua were researchers that had gotten lost in Wollow Forest. He tells Gon and Killua that those who bear the "Hunter" title are all merely prey for him. Gon begins to suspect that Sabaki is a Nen User and that his sword must be shrouded in Nen. Sabaki shows his dissatisfaction with Hunters, who he claims are full of sin and that they merely thrive off their greed by abandoning, fighting, deceiving, and even taking the lives of others.[1]
Hisoka then appears and throws three playing cards at Sabaki, who swiftly dodges them. Hisoka begins sneering and boasting about how Gon and Killua aren't "ripe enough to pick" yet.[1]
Hisoka's sudden appearance makes Sabaki nervous, and demands to know if Hisoka is a Hunter and a friend of the boys. He answered that Sabaki was correct and incorrect, claiming he's a Hunter, but not a friend of Gon and Killua. Although Hisoka favored allying with Sabaki, he warned him not to harm Gon, as he's his "fruit" and his fruit alone.[1]
After his encounter with Hisoka, Sabaki retreats. Hisoka tells Gon and Killua that he could "pick one of the fruit" right then and there, giving Gon and Killua the creeps, but then claims that he was kidding. Before leaving, Hisoka claims they'll likely meet again. Gon and Killua then leave to report back to Netero.[1]
