The Freelance Assassins were a group of assassins hired by the Ten Dons to eliminate the Phantom Troupe. It seems that they were all Nen users, although their degree of skills varied slightly.[1] All of them were killed in action.[1][2][3][4]

Plot[]

Yorknew City arc[]

On September 3rd at an undisclosed hotel, the freelance assassins, the Zoldyck Family members Silva and Zeno Zoldyck, and the Nostrade Family boss Light Nostrade accompanied by Kurapika all attend a meeting regarding the Phantom Troupe that is led by a Mafia member named Zenji. He informs the group that their job is to eliminate the Troupe and leaves the method up to them, telling them to ask if they need anything. Assassin D requests a floor plan of the building and Assassin E requests a map. Assassin D also proposes codenames and Assassin F suggests colors. A couple of the Assassins choose colors, but this idea is immediately scrapped when the assassins learn the identities of the two Zoldycks, who scoff at the idea of code names and stress that they will do things their own way. Zeno gives Assassin F a card with his address and phone number, offering to give him a 30% discount if he needs anyone killed.[1]

Kurapika recognizes that the two are from Killua's family and says to himself that the other assassins are clearly intimidated by them. Eying Assassin A and Assassin B, he adds that they are the only two who are not intimidated by the two Zoldycks and can hold their own. Like the Zoldycks, Assassin A also scoffs at the code names and agrees that they should work by themselves. Assassin B agrees and adds that they all have different styles. Assassins D and E worry about the Troupe and think that they need at least some teamwork, but Kurapika sides with those who think that they should work by themselves. Assassin A notes that the decision is five against four, and Assassin B tells the four others to team up if they want.[1]

Before the start of the Underground Auction, Assassin A has a Mafia member rewind the surveillance footage and spots Chrollo deftly knock Neon unconscious with a swift strike to the neck, noting that anyone else would have missed it. Chuckling to himself, he realizes that the man could have killed her if he had wanted to, becoming excited by his new prey. He eventually tracks down Chrollo by following Assassin F's blood trail. Chrollo proposes a one-on-one match, and Assassin A happily agrees as he readies his knife.[2] Assassin A is partially eaten and killed by Chrollo's Indoor Fish ability.[3] Shortly afterwards, Zeno informs the Mafia members that one of the attackers is inside the Cemetery Building and that some of the hired assassins have already been killed. During their sweep of the building, Silva finds Assassin D's corpse slumped over in a hallway. Zeno asks what he thinks, and Silva notes that he was killed by a single strike from behind, praising the fact that the killer perfectly suppressed his bloodlust.[4]

Trivia[]

  • When one of the assassins suggest using colors as their codenames for the job is a reference to Quentin's Tarantino movie Resevoir Dogs codename scene.
