Giuliano (ジュリアーノ, Juriāno)[2] is a Hunter and Royal Bodyguard for Prince Tyson Hui Guo Rou.[3]
Appearance[]
Giuliano is a young man with straight, middle-length hair, which he wears either combed[3] or messy.[4][2] He has a more slender build and is about half a head shorter than Izunavi.[5] As a Royal Bodyguard, he dresses in a black suit and tie. On the top left of his suit is a capital H.[3] Since Prince Tyson hires her bodyguard based on their looks, Giuliano is probably considered attractive.[6]
Personality[]
Giuliano has a very carefree, cheerful personality, and he can simulate enthusiasm very easily, doing so in overdramatic ways. He enjoys teasing Izunavi amicably, especially about his grumpiness[5] and his ignorance of the works he takes his references from.[4] After reading the Book of Tyson, however, he begins taking the prince seriously, and is moved to tears by the party she throws for him.[1]
Plot[]
Succession Contest arc[]
On the first day of the voyage, Prince Tyson's Guardian Spirit Beast manifests and Giuliano observes it with amazement.[3] When the prince gives him and Izunavi her book to read, they shut it after reading the title of the first chapter and Giuliano offers to teach Izunavi how to praise a book he has not read.[7] The following day Tyson asks them if they have read it, to which Giuliano responds by singing its praise while admitting that he, in fact, has not. The prince forgives him and promises that it will awaken a special power inside of them, so Giuliano salutes her and declares that his feelings are already evolving. He and Izunavi then discuss the Eye-wogs that have latched onto them. Since there are none on Orau's shoulder, Giuliano takes it to mean that they have found favor with the prince and proclaims Izunavi in denial when the latter objects that they do not know for sure.[5]
The next morning Tyson shares some of her teachings with her staff. Giuliano applauds her, but recognizes everything she said as being plagiarized from one of Nishino Khana's songs. He confronts Izunavi about it, whom he teases when he reveals that he has never heard of that singer. Izunavi brings the discussion back to the Eye-wogs. Giuliano comments that he does not feel any malice from them, which, since they are produced by someone preaching about love, he does not find surprising. He suggests that they may gather aura like in the manga DB.[4]
On Sunday night, Giuliano and Izunavi participate in the music show, with Giuliano reminding his disgruntled partner that the prince ordered them to. The two pair up in a rock performance, being the third group to go on stage.[2] By Tuesday, he has completed Tyson's book, which he found gripping. When Izunavi comes to switch shifts with him, Giuliano confesses he underestimated Tyson and that he would love to make her king, although that would result in breaking her ideals and murdering the other princes. He recommends Izunavi read it as well and expresses his doubts that he would be able to cleanly break ties with the Sixth Prince after reaching the New Continent, knowing what might happen to her afterward. He begins his shift, only to find the lights in the hall switched off. As soon as he walks in, Tyson and her camp reveal they threw him a surprise party because even though his birthday is not anytime soon, they will not get the chance to celebrate it before parting. Giuliano is moved to tears by the gesture.[1]
Giuliano listens as Tyson introduces five of the other guards, Madwig, a hitman with amnesia, Himoncé, a global A-list star, Anzel, Tyson's secret little brother, Hyuga, a legendary tutor, and an alien prince seeking a bride. Giuliano is unimpressed by the five new identities and points out the fact that the prince had the guards act out character tropes that she was a fan of. He's quickly silenced when Tyson objects, calling his statement a taboo. She explains that each of them has been "reborn", and while Giuliano is on board, he will be a whole other person. Giuliano decides to comply, and enthusiastically plays along with the whole plot, becoming a player on the outside, and a bodyguard with a heart of gold on the inside.[8]
Abilities & Powers[]
Giuliano has all the benefits granted by his status as a Hunter.[3] He is skilled at playing guitar.[2]
Nen[]
Being a Hunter, Giuliano knows Nen and can use it on some level.[5]

Trivia[]
Intertextuality and References[]
- "Khana Nishina" is, in all likelihood, the in-universe counterpart of the real-life singer Kana Nishino.
- "Darling" and "No Matter How" really are the titles of two of her songs, the latter translated from Japanese.
- DB (ラゴンボ, Ragonbo) is an obvious counterpart to the real-life media franchise Dragon Ball. One of the main character's attacks, the Spirit Bomb, is also mentioned.[4]
- Curiously, the abbreviated title in the in-universe version is not an acronym.
- "Do you think hypersensitive love can redeem lost lives"[1] is the direct translation of a lyric from a song by Amazarashi.
