Hunter × Hunter: Each One's Determination (
Gameplay[]
Adventure Screen & Travel[]
The main focus of the game is the exploration and battle system between the four different routes. Said routes are as follows: Hisoka, Gon & Killua, Kurapika, and Leorio. As stated in the game's manual, Gon's route is recommended for new players. Akin to the likes of Princess Tomato in the Salad Kingdom, exploration segments involve selecting word commands to interact with the environment. These include "talk," "take," "move," etc. In certain instances, selections may be removed or replaced for the story's sake. When traveling to a different area, a world map will appear. Here there's a list of subsections to visit. Certain areas may be locked due to unfulfilled requirements or the specific chapter.[4]
Combat System[]

Battle example
In battles, the player character is represented by the left peg at the top of the screen. Each of the characters' sprites are in the middle area. The bottom features four buttons from left to right: "back," "attack," "train," and "forward." To land attacks, the player must raise their Nen through their aura bar. If the latter is too low, the train ability or waiting must be done instead. It is recommended to be cautious about how much Nen is used for attacks as opponents may dodge and waste meter points or even counter. There are two means of defeating opponents: lowering their health to zero or forcing them into a ring out. Naturally, the reverse results in a game over or retry. If a character has already mastered Nen, the gauge amount will instead use the different Nen abilities such as Zetsu being no points or Hatsu being the full amount. Said abilities may heal or move the opponent's placement.
Lvl | Nen Type | Ability |
---|---|---|
0 | Zetsu (絶) | Increases avoidance and hit rate. |
1 | Ten (纏) | Strengthen attack and defense for an attack. |
2 | Gyo (凝) | Can see the opponent's status via the B button. |
3 | In (隱) | Characteristics of both Zetsu and Ten. |
4 | Han (半) | 50% hit rate with more damage. |
5 | Zen (前) | Attack, which moves the player character two steps forward. |
6 | En (遠) | Attack, which moves the player character two steps backward. |
7 | Shi (仕) | Can negate certain attacks for three turns. |
8 | Katsu (活) | 30% of HP is restored to the player character. |
9 | En (円) | More powerful version of ten with a greater hit rate. |
10 | Hatsu (発) | Character specific ability. This may change depending on the player's distance from the enemy. |
Minigame, Password Screen, & Cyber Mobile[]

Minigame example
Depending on the chapter, an aura minigame will appear. The game's object is to keep the meter at the middle through the A and B buttons. Failing will result in a retry or game over. The meter will either continue falling or waggling between the red and green areas. Each playable character has their own unique sprite (except Uvogin, who is only playable in one chapter). Password screens with the in-game name 'Pass Input' tend to make an appearance putting the player's knowledge to the test. Typically said passwords are in English or Katakana. A password will be given after a specific character's six chapters are completed. The exception to this is Hisoka's route. This is for an omake section unlocked by completing each of the four routes. In the map screen, the player is able to access an encyclopedia called Cyber Mobile for in-universe terminology. The name comes from the game's manual. This screen is the only instance where the handheld device must be turned to read. It will continue to fill as the player continues on.[4][2]

Trivia[]
- Each One's Determination is the first Wonderswan Color game and the second Wonderswan game, in general, to be released.
- Despite taking place during the Heaven's Arena arc, Kurapika is depicted in his Yorknew outfit and with chains early on when accessing the in-game map.
- The game shares assets with Hunter × Hunter: The Guided One, including music, option menus, and sprites.

Contest held by V Jump.
- After completing all routes, the player will keep all their characters' levels via new game plus, making certain boss fights easier. However, encounters that require the player to lose (Ex: Tron) will give lower health and restrict certain actions.
- To promote the game's release, a contest was held by V Jump where applicants would cut out an image of Kurapika and send it to their P.O. box. If said applicant won, they would be rewarded a rare Kurapika themed pouch for their Wonderswan. Only a hundred pouches were manufactured and rewarded.[7]
- In some commercials for the game, different color palettes are used for minor characters such as Riehlvelt and Heaven's Arena staff than in the final product.
- In an ad promoting the Wonderswan Color, an early version of Kurapika's Dowsing Chain attack can be seen.[8]
- In-game, Kurapika's first name is spelled as "Kurapica."
- A guidebook for the game by V Jump spells Killua's last name as "Zaoldyeck," Hisoka as "Hysoka," and Kurapika as "Curarpikt.” It also misspells the word contents as "contens".[5]
- The game's guidebook incorrectly lists Leorio as an enhancer.[5]
- When inserting the game inside a black and white Wonderswan, an image of Gon will appear, warning the player the game isn't monochromatic. The same screen was also reused for the game's sequel.[9]
- According to one of the staff members, Kouji Murata, the soundtrack was made using MIDIs. Because of a lack of tools, Kouji himself would have to engineer his own converter for Hiroaki Shibata to add music with.[1]
