Lynch Fullbokko (リンチ=フルボッコ, Rinchi Furubokko) was a member of the Xi-Yu Family.[1]

Appearance[]

Lynch was a young woman with shoulder-length fair hair styled to spiral into a tube-like shape on the back of her head, with a few locks from her forehead falling on her shoulders and two shorter ones framing her face. She has big eyes and short, thin eyebrows. Her attire of choice consists of a sleeveless top with a high collar. Its lower hem is made out of a poofy material reminiscent of fur, and from its front side departs extra fabric that is gathered and secured to the collar with a brooch, leaving it crinkly-looking. A pair of slippers with a thick sole completes the attire.[1]

Personality[]

Lynch apparently holds herself and the Xi-Yu Family in high regard and does not appreciate being talked down to. She remained perfectly composed first while trying to intimidate and then while beating down a member of the Heil-Ly Family, but she sneered at him after he passed out after only a few blows.[1]

Lynch punches her opponent

Underboss Hinrigh Biganduffno calls upon Lynch and Zakuro after receiving orders from their Boss, Onior Longbao, to search for Hisoka Morow and kill Heil-Ly Family Boss Morena Prudo on Tier 3. They spot Perigord and a female Heil-Ly Family member in a burger joint; Hinrigh follows the woman, leaving Lynch and Zakuro to confront the man. However, Perigord distracts the two as Bille appears and slashes at Zakuro's neck. Perigord then kicks Lynch on the stomach, causing her to fall to the ground. However, she looks unfazed by the attack and tells the man should worry about his comrade instead. Zakuro easily subdues his opponent, while Lynch starts asking questions about Heil-Ly. Using her Nen ability, Body and Soul, she learns from the man about the goals of this organization and information about Morena's ability.[1]

Hinrigh later informs his two associates that the Heil-Ly members are registered as civilians in the papers, not as Mafia members. As two soldiers appear to warn them about going to Tier 3 anymore, Hinrigh offers them bribe money and touches their guns. As the three are leaving the floor, the guns turn into snakes and fire at the soldiers, killing them.[1]

Chap 391 - Hinrigh, Zakuro, and Lynch

Hinrigh giving instructions to Zakuro and Lynch

As the passengers on Tier 3 scream and run away in terror from the two decapitated soldiers, Zakuro says that they will keep looking for Hisoka as planned. Hinrigh tells Zakuro and Lynch to contact him first before doing anything if they find Hisoka. He adds that he plans to track down one of the Heil-Ly members while looking for others.[2]

After reaching an empty corridor with Lynch, Zakuro uses his ability and causes numerous drops of blood to move along the wall. Lynch says that she will never get used to how gross it is, but Zakuro is disappointed by her reaction, adding that each drop is doing its best to find Hisoka. Lynch plucks one of them from the wall and tries to squeeze it, wondering how to kill them. Zakuro asks why she would want to kill one, revealing that they will run out of Nen in 30 to 40 minutes and turn back to normal blood. Lynch returns to their mission and asks if all she needs to do is punch the information out of anyone suspicious that the drops find. Zakuro replies that she asks the same thing every time and doesn't pay much attention to him.[2]

Later, Zakuro's drops of blood continue their search for Hisoka. A drop spots a tall man with dark skin, and Zakuro confirms that they found another one, leading Lynch to the target. Lynch asks if he is Hisoka, but the man is left confused by the question. She repeats herself, and as he begins to say that she has the wrong guy, Lynch punches him in the midsection to use her ability, causing his inner soul to say that he is not. As his two friends check on him and threaten to call the authorities, Lynch says that they are dead if they get in the way of the Xi-Yu's manhunt, telling them to come by their hideout on Tier 4 and offering to compensate them.[3]

Chap 392 - Lynch knocked unconscious

Lynch knocked unconscious by "Hisoka"

When Zakuro finds another target, Lynch wonders why they can't simply ignore the ones who look weak since they're obviously not Hisoka. Zakuro reminds her that they don't even know what kind of ability he has, and Lynch realizes that if he has the ability to alter his height, their entire plan is pointless. Zakuro points out another target in a crowded area, and they follow him to an empty corridor where Lynch asks if he is Hisoka. He wonders who she is, and Lynch replies with her name before asking for his again and punching him. Lynch suddenly falls to the floor as Zakuro watches in terror. The man apologizes and says that his counter was simply a reflex before asking Zakuro what he wants. With sweat running down his face and his voice trembling, Zakuro guesses that he must be Hisoka given how overwhelming his aura is and how easily he subdued Lynch, and asks him as such to confirm his identity. However, "Hisoka" calmly says that he's asking the questions now, and Zakuro nervously replies that while they weren't told the details, the Mafia is searching for him, asking him to come with them if he wants to know more. "Hisoka" puts on a menacing smirk and terrifies Zakuro even more.[3]

Chap 393 - Zakuro and Lynch

Lynch finds Zakuro beside a pile of rubbish

Zakuro wakes up beside a pile of boxes and trash bags. Lynch asks him if Hisoka knocked him unconscious as well, and Zakuro says that he's just happy to be alive, asking where he went. Lynch replies that he was gone when she woke up, adding that it was definitely Hisoka and asking what happened after she passed out. Zakuro explains that after Hisoka invited him to the movies and asked what he wanted to watch, he lost consciousness when he took his eyes off him. Lynch then suggests reporting the situation to Hinrigh since they are clearly outmatched. At the cinema complex, Hinrigh is accompanied by several Xi-Yu members and tells Zakuro that he should return since they don't want Hisoka to think he's there for revenge. He tells his men that they will clear one auditorium at a time, and Zakuro says that he will regroup with Lynch and look for the Troupe's leader. Hinrigh wonders if he can handle it, and Zakuro is confident that he will help them once they emphasize the need for balance and give him Hisoka's location in exchange for wiping out the Heil-Ly.[4]

On the twelfth day of the voyage, Bonolenov comes across Hisoka in a casino on Tier 1 while transformed into him and heeds Chrollo's advice to him to transform into someone else if he comes across Hisoka. Bonolenov transforms into Owl, the Shadow Beast, and worries about being found by the mafia. He worries about the mafia thinking that Hisoka had killed the "woman whose punch could reveal your inner voice" and thinks back to his interaction with Lynch and Zakuro while disguised as Hisoka. After being punched by Lynch, Bonolenov had reflexively hit her with a liver shot, causing her to collapse. He begins to panic, expecting that the "I.V. drip guy" had heard the voice as well, but sees that only he and Lynch heard his inner voice by Zakuro's confused reactions. While Lynch was knocked out, Bonolenov proceeded to knock Zakuro out and hide his body around the corner before transforming into Zakuro and checking whether Lynch had heard his inner voice. Lynch, unaware that the Zakuro she spoke to was a fake, had gotten angry at being tricked and had revealed her awareness that the Hisoka they found was a fake.[5]

As Bonolenov walks around in his new disguise, he runs through his memory of taking Lynch's form after killing her to trick Zakuro into leading the mafia to the movie theatre. He tries to imagine things from Zakuro's perspective and hopes that they would think that someone else had killed her after she split up. He thinks that even if the mafia found their body, they would probably not come up en masse to kill Hisoka.[5]

Chap 406 - Hinrigh and Zakuro learning

Lynch's corpse reported to Hinrigh and Zakuro by a Kakin soldier

On the twelfth day of the voyage, Lynch's corpse is found by a group of soldiers during their final sweep ahead of Halkenburg's funeral procession. She is recognized as a Xi-Yu family member, and so one of them lets the family know, and her body is placed into a body bag. Hinrigh and Zakuro turn up shortly after to deal with her corpse, and see her neck unnaturally twisted. Hinrigh gives a bribe to a soldier, who explains that she had a complete cervical fracture, likely at the hands of someone professional. Hinrigh explains that a war had broken out and that a Heil-Ly hitman probably got her, before telling the soldiers that he would handle the body and to not write it up.[6]

Chap 406 - Hinrigh and Zakuro analyzing

Hinrigh and Zakuro analyzing the possibility that the "Hisoka" Lynch and Zakuro encountered was a fake

While carrying Lynch's corpse in a body bag, Hinrigh tries to clarify the situation with Zakuro. Zakuro confirms that he had split up with Lynch after Hisoka had knocked both of them out and left, and adds that if Hisoka killed Lynch, he would have killed both of them then. Hinrigh agrees with Zakuro's reasoning and asks if it was possible that Lynch went after Hisoka alone. Zakuro disagrees and says that he would have been able to tell since Lynch was really transparent that way. Zakuro says that Lynch was uncharacteristically calm and wasn't the type to be worried about his well-being right after someone had knocked her out. Hinrigh then asks Zakuro if it was possible that the real Lynch was already dead and that someone else had woken him up. Zakuro begins to get confused and wonders if Hisoka was disguised as her, but refutes the idea with the fact that Hisoka was much taller than Lynch, then refutes his refute because he and Lynch were talking about the idea that someone could disguise as a person of a different height. Zakuro says it would make more sense if Lynch was being manipulated. Hinrigh agrees but brings up that if so, it would be seemingly pointless to get her to wake him up just to tell him that she was returning to the office. He says that it might be better from the enemy's perspective if Lynch had disappeared without a word, which would force them to think of all sorts of possibilities. Zakuro suggests that the enemy might have wanted to box their thoughts in. At Hinrigh's request, he recounts her words. Hinrigh picks up on Lynch saying "That was definitely Hisoka!" and points out that the enemy had wanted them to think that the man they saw was indeed Hisoka. He suggests that Lynch had found out that "Hisoka" was a fake through her ability and silenced, and he was left alive to tell the rest of the Xi-Yu that he had found Hisoka, not realizing that it was not actually him. Hinrigh clarifies the rest of Zakuro's uncertainty, and the two agree to avenge her death no matter who is responsible, even if it was the Phantom Troupe responsible and they had to go to war with the Cha-R.[6]

Abilities & Powers[]

As one of Hinrigh's most trusted underlings, Lynch is bound to be a high-profile and very capable figure in the Xi-Yu Family. Her abilities are suited to both fighting and gathering information. She is more durable than a normal person since she took a kick to the belly from a much bigger man without being hurt in the least.[1] She was however, no match for a Phantom Troupe member, Bonolenov Ndongo.[5]

Advanced Hand-to-Hand Combatant: Lynch's fighting style appears to be punch-based, befitting her Nen ability. She can throw a flurry of them with the same arm with enough power to swiftly knock out a weak Nen user without even trying to. To defend, she crouched and redirected the attacker's blow, exploiting both their stances to land a powerful punch on a vulnerable area thus created.[1]

Nen[]

Lynch was an Emitter skilled enough to have created a Nen ability. Her resilience to the mobster's kick might be due to her being in a state of Ten.[1]

Lynch's Nen Type: Emission
Type: Emission "Mindfulness"—Body and Soul (体は全部知っている(ボディアンドソウル) (lit. The Body Knows All))
Chap 390 - Lynch's punches
Lynch asks the target a question and then proceeds to punch them, which will cause both her and the target to hear the latter's voice giving her an honest answer. Only the two of them can hear it. If she does not change the question after the first strike, subsequent blows result in the target expanding on their previous answer.[1]

Trivia[]

  • The character's name might be derived from the English verb "to lynch", which means killing someone for an alleged offense without a legal trial.
  • Lynch's surname, フルボッコ (Furubokko), is most likely a contraction of フルパワーでボッコボコ (furupawā de bokkoboko)—a Japanese internet slang roughly translatable as "full power[ed] and viciously beating [unilaterally]"—which thematically complements her first name and the way her Nen ability works.
  • Lynch's Nen ability is named as '"Mindfulness"—Body and Soul' in the Viz translation.[1]

Intertextuality and References[]

  • The kanji name of Lynch's Nen ability is derived from the title of a novel by Banana Yoshimoto.
  • When Lynch is first introduced, she is seen reading a magazine titled With Yui with Keyakizaka46 member Kobayashi Yui on its cover.
