Maizan (マイザン, Maizan) is a corporal of the Royal Army of the Kakin Empire.[1]

Appearance[]

Maizan has squinted eyes, a large nose, and a mustache. He wears a dark helmet and the standard uniform of a Kakin soldier.[1]

Personality[]

Maizan is willing to share information with the Mafia if the money is good enough. He is also intelligent and cautious, wary about being double-crossed in his dealings.[1] He also shows fear when he sees Ken'i's ice-cold grin.[2]

Plot[]

Succession Contest arc[]

As a large crowd gathers on Tier 3, Maizan tries to calm them down by assuring them that the perpetrator of the previous incidents has already been arrested. Along with two other soldiers, he then approaches Padaille and Hinrigh, asking the former if he wants to press charges. Padaille assures them that they resolved the issue after a brief fight, and Hinrigh says that the gunshots seen were used against him. Maizan recognizes him as the Xi-Yu underboss, and Hinrigh confirms it, saying that Padaille is only a civilian.[1]

Chap 392 - A soldier asking Hinrigh for money

Maizan asking Hinrigh for money in exchange for information

After telling Padaille that he is free to go, Maizan warns Hinrigh that they won't be able to cover for him anymore if he keeps attacking civilians. He then asks in a hushed voice how much Hinrigh is willing to pay for information on the location of the Heil-Ly's boss. When Hinrigh replies with 50 million as long as the information is reliable, Maizan asks for the money upfront, but Hinrigh says he needs to confirm the details first. Maizan points out that he's risking his own life to sell out a Mafia boss and needs at least 30 million upfront. He explains that when he asked the man in charge of the Black Whale's wiring about certain workers who were silenced, he told him to be quiet about it. He reveals that they were wiring a room that doesn't appear on the ship's plans, guessing that it must belong to the Heil-Ly if the Xi-Yu doesn't have a secret hideout. Hinrigh tells Maizan to wait there until he gets the money, adding that he has to lead him there himself. After agreeing to the deal, Maizan tells the crowd that they are free to pass and assures them that soldiers will keep watch for a while longer.[1]

Elsewhere on Tier 3, Maizan waits for Hinrigh and wonders what's taking him so long. He then spots Ken'i and several Cha-R members approaching him. Ken'i notices several drops of blood on the floor and comments on the recent conflict. Maizan explains that Hinrigh clashed with a civilian and that they could have handed Hinrigh over to the police if the civilian had cooperated, but Ken'i highlights their connection and bribery. Maizan tells him to stop his accusations and leave, but Ken'i wonders why a corporal would be standing guard instead of a regular soldier and wonders what he's planning with Hinrigh. Maizan reveals that Hinrigh wanted information on the Heil-Ly's hideout and tells Ken'i that he can also make an offer for the intel. Ken'i quickly agrees to match Hinrigh's offer and tells a subordinate to bring him 50 million in cash.[2]

Chap 393 - Ken'i and Maizan

Ken'i assuring Maizan that there will be no survivors

Maizan is unsure whether Hinrigh will agree to it, but Ken'i assures him that they are working together to crush the Heil-Ly since a second-track faker has gone too far and they have received approval from the Fourth Prince. He tells Maizan to report every potential Heil-Ly member they spot and that they will give five million to the finder and his corporal, adding that they will set up a culprit for the murders, and he will provide the eyewitness testimony. Maizan agrees to the deal as long as they eliminate every Heil-Ly member since he doesn't want to worry about retaliation. Ken'i puts on a haunting smile and assures him that they will deal with every last one of them. Maizan recognizes his icy grin and nervously wonders if everyone he smiles at dies, but Ken'i calls it a rude rumor and points out that everyone dies eventually.[2]

Connelly, a Xi-Yu lieutenant, approaches with a paper bag full of money and says that they can get started once their money and Hinrigh arrive. Maizan leads the Mafia members to Room 3101 in the first-class cabins, and Hinrigh asks if every room has the same layout. Maizan explains that the worker told him it was the only room without a bathroom wall, adding that the plumbing space is behind it, but the access panel is elsewhere. He then says that if there's a wall there now, it should confirm that there’s a hidden room. Ken'i points out that anything could be back there since it's at the edge of the ship. Hinrigh tells Maizan to make contact since they shouldn't attack a soldier, but still advises him to leave his safety off. Maizan knocks on the door and announces that the Kakin Army has received a tip and needs to search the room.[2]

Chap 393 - Hinrigh and Ken'i

Hinrigh and Ken'i seeing that Maizan disappeared

Gateaume slowly opens the door and assures them that he hasn't done anything wrong. Readying his weapon, Maizan tells him to back away slowly and sit down on the bed with his hands raised. However, when Maizan enters the room, Hinrigh and Ken'i look inside to see that he has disappeared. Still sitting on the bed, Gateaume is surprised he wasn't alone and says that they don't look to be military, assuring them that he hasn't done anything wrong and politely asking them to come inside. The two underbosses remain outside the room, and Hinrigh asks where Corporal Maizan is. Gateaume replies that he may have gone to the bathroom, continuing to try to entice Hinrigh and Ken'i to enter the room.[2] After throwing a knife into Gateaume's leg, Hinrigh again asks him where Maizan is, but Gateaume chuckles and vanishes without answering the question.[3]
