Renko (レンコ, Renko) is an inhabitant of Meteor City's Kirimori Valley. She worked as an embalmer and was Machi's mentor in the art of Nen.[2]
Appearance[]
At the time of her appearance, Renko was a fairly tall woman with a petite build and long, light-colored hair. She wore a broad-brimmed hat with two horn-like ears sticking out from it as well as a completely black outfit; her full-skirt midi dress with sleeves also served as a mask that covered the lower half of her face, revealing only her eyes.[2]
Personality[]
Renko is mysterious and withdrawn, appearing at Sarasa's funeral and standing back quietly while the children mourn for their friend. While she seemed jealous of Machi's eyes and made a comment about precocious kids, she was willing to embalm Sarasa's body and offered Machi a way to learn Nen.[2]
The inhabitants of Meteor City are also stated to share remarkable bonds that have been described as "thinner than water, and yet thicker than blood".[3]
Plot[]
Succession Contest arc[]
After Sarasa's death, the children gather around her body lying in a casket at the church, calling her beautiful and saying that it's like she's still alive. Lisores tells them that it's called embalming, explaining that it's a technique used to restore and keep a person's body as close as possible to how it was when they were alive. He adds that it's a miracle that her body was able to be restored so well, given the condition it was in, asking them to thank the embalmer, Ms. Renko. Machi looks back to see a mysterious woman dressed in black with a large hat that has pointed ears.[2]
She then approaches Renko and asks if she can learn to embalm like that, but Renko replies that she cannot, explaining that her technique is a special ability. Machi wonders if the ability has something to do with why her body is glowing so much, and Renko quickly asks if she can see aura. Machi stares at her with a determined look, and the jealous Renko comments on her pretty eyes. She then tosses Machi a small piece of paper with a specific design, explaining that she can visit anytime if the caretakers give her permission. She tells her to get on the last bus and ask for Kirimori Valley, adding that if she shows them the piece of paper, they will take her there for free. As Renko walks away, the word "aura" lingers in Machi's mind.[2]
Abilities & Powers[]
Renko is a Nen user, as Machi was able to see her aura.[2] She is a Specialist.[1]
