Sabaki's design

Sabaki is a young man with a tan complexion, blonde hair, and blue eyes. He is about average height and weight. His clothing comprises a short-sleeved orange jacket with white segments, an orange bandana, a blue undershirt, black gloves, and blue jeans.[1]

Personality[]

Sabaki is an impulsive young individual. He lets his emotions get the best of him and can occasionally be rash. He also has a deep hatred for hunters due to his father. However, he is also clever enough to destroy the Dragon Vein Zegin was using and to utilize an ability that rids Nen users of their aura[1]

Background[]

Around five years before the game's events, Sabaki's father abandoned him and his dying mother to participate in the 282nd Hunter Exam; however, it was Zegin who murdered his father. These events would cause Sabaki to despise the Hunter Association. Eventually, he learned Nen and aimed for revenge against all hunters, starting with Zegin. He became allies with him in hopes of eventually avenging his father.[1]

Plot[]

Altar of Dragon Vein[]

Note: Events occurring in Altar of Dragon Vein do not constitute canon material. Furthermore, some events may slightly differ depending on the current player character.

Gon and his friends first encounter Sabaki at the Forest Ruins. As Killua notes the door entrance to be locked off, Sabaki confronts them. Realizing Gon to be a hunter, he reveals to them that he 'hunts' hunters. From this, a fight breaks out. As Sabaki nearly defeats them, Hisoka interferes. Sabaki questions if he's their friend, which he denies. He then offers to become allies with the blonde boy. Sabaki refuses this and leaves, proclaiming that he will put an end to all hunters in the association, causing Hisoka to take interest in him.[1]

Sabaki is briefly seen at Zegin's Mansion. He helps drive the jeep carrying Zegin and Sabaki. He then appears after Amane fights the Hunter group in the Crystal Cave. He proceeds to knock Amane unconscious because he is a liability. Sabaki also reveals his intentions to them and his troubled past. He aims to kill Zegin before anyone else can. He also claims that he would still despise hunters even if this hadn't happened. At this, Sabaki leaves the group be and exits the ruins, commenting that they're next.[1]

At the Altar of Dragon Vein, Sabaki joins Zegin. The duo proceeds to discuss their current situation. However, when Sabaki lies about Amane's whereabouts, Zegin calls him out for this, knowing he betrayed them both. At this, Sabaki reveals his true intentions to Zegin. He then attempts to kill him. However, he survives. This is because the nearby Dragon Vein replenishes him with the Earth's aura. Zegin then proceeds to knock Sabaki unconscious. After the Hunter group fights Zegin, Sabaki awakens. He then attacks the Dragon Vein to prevent Zegin from healing himself.[1]

After Sabaki destroys the Dragon Vein, he is knocked out by Zegin once again. The Hunter group then brings him to the airship to be healed by Romaria. After he awakens, he attempts to destroy Netero's airship in an act of suicide. However, as everyone tries to leave, Gon finds him on the airship's deck. Gon questions him on why he's continuing his revenge after Zegin's death. Sabaki replies by wanting all hunters to perish. Here, Sabaki reveals that his mother's illness left her bedridden. For this, his father aimed to become a hunter to obtain enough money. While both he and his mother attempted to argue against this, he pursued onward, resulting in his mother dying alone. At this, Sabaki attacks Gon.[1]

Despite his best efforts, he is soon defeated. Gon then talks to him once more. He discusses his own father who abandoned his aunt to become a hunter and left Gon. However, Gon admits to not holding a grudge. Furthermore, becoming a hunter allowed him to meet his friends. He asks Sabaki to continue to live instead. Sabaki rejects this, seeing himself as unworthy of living. He demands that Gon leave as he already has people who actually care for him. At this, Gon promises not to become like Zegin or Sabaki's father. After the ship crashes, though, it is revealed that Sabaki survived. Landing in the forest, he is found by Hisoka. Sabaki questions why he let him live. At this, Hisoka merely comments on his death being a waste and only offers to kill him when he's become stronger.[1]

While the Hunter group and Ogyu attempt to fight Amane and Zegin in the mansion, Sabaki suddenly appears. He proceeds to kill Zegin. Outside, the Hunter group follows him. Sabaki comments on now having a reason to live. He then watches Ogyu use the Goddess Advent Cards. After this, Netero suggests Sabaki attempt the upcoming Hunter Exam, commenting that the likes of Zegin are not what all hunters are like. It will also provide Sabaki with the experience needed to become stronger. Sabaki reluctantly agrees.[1]

Later, as Sabaki leaves, he encounters Hisoka once more. He questions whether he told Netero about their prior conversation. Hisoka admits as such. However, he states that it is necessary for them to fight because of the Hunter Association's benefits. He also comments on their similarities, seeing himself in the younger boy. Sabaki then departs for the exam.[1]

Abilities & Powers[]

Despite being the youngest member of Zegin's group, he is shown to be physically the strongest. He dual-wields two long swords nearly half his body's length. He is also able to destroy Netero's airship by himself.

Nen[]

Sabaki's Nen ability in-game is called 'Nen-Blocking Weapon Enhancement.' He can surround his long swords with aura and negate any Nen-user's aura output.
