Siper (スパー, Supā) was a participant in the 287th Hunter Exam and one of its few female contestants. She was examinee #80.[1]

Appearance[]

In the 2011 anime adaptation, Siper had long, tied-back crimson hair, and the tail end was bushy. She wore an orange sleeveless vest with a navy-blue turtleneck underneath it, plain blue pants, brown boots, grey gloves, and square-shaped sunglasses.[1]

In the 1999 anime adaptation, Siper had blonde hair tied in a bun, a dark brown jacket with a white shirt underneath, black pants, long black boots, and square-shaped sunglasses. Without her shades, her eyes appear green.

Personality[]

In the original manga and the 2011 anime adaptation, Siper had a tacit and stoic demeanor,[1] while in the 1999 anime adaptation, she had a bit more personality. Siper mentions preferring to shoot moving targets rather than stationary ones.[2] She also showed a keen sense of humility and confidence, as she states in the 1999 adaptation that she is aware that she is physically weaker than other contestants but makes up for it in skills and tactics as she was confident in being able to take out Gittarackur with a single shot.[3] She also appears to enjoy shooting people, as in the 1999 anime adaptation, she states, "You are my cute little prey." to herself before shooting Illumi disguised as Gittarackur.

Siper stalking Illumi on Zevil Island

Siper stalking Gittarackur on Zevil Island

Siper is one of the twenty-four Hunter examinees to pass the Third Phase of the Hunter Exam,[4] and make it to the Fourth Phase on Zevil Island, when receiving her target, she receives Gittarackur's examinee number.[1] Later, Gittarackur gives her badge to Hisoka, stating that he got mad that she tried to kill him, so he retaliated and killed her.[5]

Equipment[]

Sniper Rifle: Siper's weapon of choice was a sniper rifle.[4]

Abilities & Powers[]

Siper was a capable contestant, having reached the Third Phase of the Hunter Exam before being killed by Illumi.[4] Since she passed the First Phase, she must have had above-average stamina. In both anime adaptations, Siper proved to be a capable marksman, being able to target Illumi without being discovered until she opened fire or was detected by his Nen.[3][6]

Trivia[]

  • Her name is most likely derived from a type of gun, that being "sniper" rifle.

Anime and Manga Differences[]

  • While it is not seen how she was killed in the manga, the two anime adaptations give her more screen time:
    • Sniper makes her debut in standing among the other 405 applicants in the waiting room for the 287th Hunter Exam. She isn't seen much again except for a few moments of running during the Hunter Exam's first phase.[8][9] She is later seen again at the bottom of Trick Tower after completing her challenge, with her also being set aback by Sommy's Monkey reaching the bottom of Trick Tower, then is also seen callously watching as one of the examinees reaches the bottom of Trick Tower before dying from a fatal injury and exhaustion.[10]
    • In the 1999 anime, she was shown to be capable of firing the cannons of a warship.[2]
    • In the 1999 anime, Siper attempts to kill her target, Gittarackur, by sniping at him from a distance while he focuses on his own target, Goz. However, Goz takes the shot in the back and is mortally wounded. Gittarackur then kills her in retaliation for interfering with his battle.[3]
    • In the 2011 anime, Siper is seen aiming at Gittarackur but is quickly killed when Gittarackur throws one of his needles through her scope, which goes directly into her head.[6]
  • Siper's appearance differs quite a bit from the 1999 anime adaptation and the 2011 anime adaptation:
    • In the 1999 anime adaptation, she sports blonde hair tied in a bun, a dark brown jacket with a white shirt underneath, black pants, long black boots, and square-shaped sunglasses. Without her shades, her eyes appear green.
    • In the 2011 anime adaptation, she had long, tied-back crimson hair, and the tail end was bushy. She wore an orange sleeveless vest with a navy-blue turtleneck underneath it, plain blue pants, brown boots, grey gloves, and square-shaped sunglasses.
  • Siper never speaks in the 2011 anime adaptation, unlike in the 1999 anime adaptation.
    • She also never removes her shades in the manga or the 2011 anime adaptation, but she does in the 1999 anime adaptation, with her eyes appearing emerald green.
