"When I become king, I'll split people into two groups: Useful trash and useless trash." — Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou in "Threats (Volume)" Extras |
Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou (ツェリードニヒ=ホイコーロ, Tserīdonihi Hoikōro) is the Fourth Prince of the Kakin Empire, and the second son of his father's first wife, Unma.[6] He was also the only known benefactor of the Heil-Ly Family, one of the three great Mafia families in Kakin's underworld,[7] until he cut ties with them due to Morena's action against him.[2] Tserriednich serves as one the main antagonists of the Succession Contest arc.
Appearance

The 4th Prince of Kakin is introduced
Tserriednich appears to be a tall and rather muscular man. He has shoulder-length blond hair that is generally loosely combed back in formal settings and sometimes tied up in more informal settings, a thin mustache, some stubble, and brown eyes. Perhaps as a reflection of his perception of himself as above others, he dresses elegantly but casually, often seen in elegant or expensive but relatively informal clothes.
Tserriednich's formal outfits vary, though he takes care to dress himself presentably. When Tserriednich is first seen in a picture shown by Mizaistom to Kurapika, he wears a ornate crown made of gold, and an opulent robe with a similarly-ornate collar.[8] His choice of outfit for formal ceremonies appears to be a relatively simple tuxedo, seen wearing it during events with many attendees, varying his outfit by pairing the tuxedo with different bowties for the different events, one is seen for the on-land part of the eve festival of the Black Whale 1's departure,[9] another for the on-the-Black-Whale part of the eve festival,[9] and a third during the departure ceremony of the Black Whale itself.[10]
Tserriednich's outfits when alone or not in a formal setting are relatively casual, though similarly reflective of his affluence. In his first appearance at a residence of his, he wears a simple robe over a black long-sleeved top, similarly-loose pants, and some knee-high boots.[11] He wears a fur-lined bathrobe when he is first informed over a call of the upcoming succession war,[12] and takes part in the Seed Urn Ceremony while dressed in what appears to be silk pajamas.[6] When training in Nen, he wears clothing more suitable for exercise, seen wearing a dark-colored collared tracksuit, [13] a simple tank top and dark baggy pants, [14] and sleeveless hoodies in separate occasions.[3]
Personality

Tserriednich expresses his desire to kill his siblings
Tserriednich is a placid, polished, and erudite man with interests ranging from football to philosophy. He has a very keen intellect, which he is proud of. Despite showing a serene smile and courteous mannerisms, Tserriednich is sociopathic and inhumane, indulging in gruesome human slaughter and the collection of body parts, notably several pairs of Scarlet Eyes.[8] He thinks of himself as an artist who seeks pieces of inspiring art that young and beautiful people bring about when confronted with extreme situations. However, he demands that they have an appropriate level of culture, those failing to meet his expectations are regarded as subhuman. Furthermore, he is elated at the prospect of being allowed to kill his siblings, whom he sees as scumbags.[11] One of his bodyguards, Theta, even describes him as pure, unbridled evil, and feels that he of all people must not be allowed to master Nen as he will use it for evil.[1] When he was in the Royal Military Academy of Kakin, he shot a fellow cadet in the leg after an awards ceremony, due to an argument during an earlier drill.[2]
9th Prince Halkenburg is the only sibling that he seems to get along well with; Halkenburg has posted on his Facebox that Tserriednich is the one Prince he accepts. During a banquet in the Black Whale on the eve of the voyage, Tserriednich and Halkenburg are seen speaking to other guests together.[9]
Tserriednich seems to have a great amount of respect towards individuals and organizations that make great contributions in the areas of academia and sports, having mentioned several during a conversation with two women. Furthermore, he seems to hold his father in high regard, using basic facts of Kakin as a personal baseline to decide whether he considers someone a "human being" or just "pigs and monkeys".[11][note 1]
He harbored an intense hatred towards deceitful women.[15] However, after Theta's attempt on his life, he starts to develop an interest on them.[16]
Despite his seeming laissez-faire attitude towards many things, Tserriednich has a tenacious or even ravenous desire to excel in areas which catch his interest, and a desire to appear effortlessly successful. Tserriednich's former classmates during his time at Kakin's Royal Military Academy recount a story of him holing himself up in his room, practicing the weapons field stripping and reassembly drill without eating or sleeping, until he broke the Academy's speed record, and passing off his efforts as simply "playing".[2] This tenacity is witnessed in person as well; despite Tserriednich's generational talent for Nen allowing him to unknowingly conjure a Nen beast before even learning Zetsu, he manages to get his Zetsu activation speed time down to below 3.5 seconds within four days of learning Zetsu, yet remains unsatisfied and declares his intent to continue improving until it is below 1 second.[17]
Background

A young Tserriednich shot his fellow cadet for arguing with him
In his younger days, Tserriednich studied at the Royal Military Academy of Kakin. He is well-known for the weapons field stripping and reassembly drill when he was in the seventh grade, sparking a rumor he holed himself up in his room without eating or sleeping for practicing until he broke the school's speed record. However, he denied it as in his own admission, he was simply "playing". There was an incident after the awards ceremony where Tserriednich shot a fellow cadet in the leg due to an argument during the drill.[2]
At some point in his life, Tserriednich obtained several Scarlet Eyes pairs that Kurapika failed to track.[8]
Plot
Succession Contest arc
The Owner of the Scarlet Eyes

Tserriednich appears as Prince of Kakin
Tserriednich is first introduced by Mizaistom in a conversation with Kurapika.[8] After the Kakin Empire announces their voyage to explore the Dark Continent, the Zodiacs scramble to prepare sufficient manpower for the trip.[18] At Leorio's recommendation, Mizaistom seeks Kurapika out for help. Mizaistom brings up a video on a darknet website showing a large number of Scarlet Eyes. Kurapika had been unsuccessfully searching for the owner of the eyes, and Mizaistom shares that he had identified their owner by random chance while conducting background checks on the passengers. In exchange for Kurapika joining the Zodiacs and accompanying them to the Dark Continent, Mizaistom identifies their owner as Tserriednich, 4th Prince of the Kakin Empire.[8]
Tserriednich makes his first appearance receiving two girls from a nightclub that his subordinate Mark invites to Tserriednich's residence, a room in a hotel he owns. Tserriednich warmly welcomes them and explains that he wants to converse with all sorts of people so he doesn't lose touch (with society), before leading them into another room and offering them a drink. After a short period of time, Tserriednich is seen complaining about his conversation with them in a call to Mark from a blood-stained shower, while washing blood and hair off him and down the drain. He complains that the girls only had interests in shopping and sex, and no knowledge of famous individuals, football clubs, or scientific methods, asking Mark to at least ask any girls called over beforehand if they know Kakin's capital, its ruling party, or the name of the King. Tserriednich parallels skinning ignorant people with mere dissection, before expressing his desire for art, produced by youths with a future put in an 'extreme' situation, before asking Mark to bring in two more girls. He is later seen welcoming two more girls brought by Mark, dressed more "conservatively" than the pair of party girls Mark had brought in earlier.[11]
Sometime later, Tserriednich lounges in a bathrobe with a drink in hand, listening to music that masks the groans of someone being tattooed nearby. He gets a call from his brother Benjamin, informing him that their father had declared the sole survivor of the trip to the Dark Continent to be the next king (of the Kakin Empire). Tserriednich thanks god for giving him the chance to dispose of the "rotten trash" (his siblings). They have a short exchange and Tserriednich ends the call by provoking Benjamin, before returning his attention to the tattoo artist as he tattoos a woman.[12]
Tserriednich takes a picture of the tattoo and looks at it as he gets a call on another phone. Theta reports that all five of his bodyguards have cleared the tests imposed by the Hunter Association, and gives him an update about the outcomes of his sibling's guards attempts at the Hunter Exam. Tserriednich orders her to gather as much info as possible about the Black Whale and hangs up. He says to himself that no fool will sit on the throne, which will be his.[12]
King Nasubi's personal butler informs him of the rules of the Succession War: only the children of legal wives of King Nasubi can participate, who also board the Black Whale and take part in the departure ceremony. The identities and number of participants will remain confidential until that date, and the contest will be canceled if any candidate dies before the ceremony. The contest begins when the Black Whale finishes sounding its departure horn, and once the contest begins, succession will not be questioned no matter what measures are taken to outlast the others. The messenger presents an urn used in a traditional Kakin ritual. Tserriednich puts a drop of his blood, and then his hand, inside. A fairy comes out of the Urn, feeding him a small egg before disappearing. Due to him not being a Nen user, Tserriednich fails to notice what has just happened and asks about the ritual to the messenger. According to the rumors, the messenger informs him that if someone who craves to be king puts his blood inside the Seed Urn, they will be blessed with a special power.[6]
Sometime later, Kurapika learns of listings on Kakin's website by its Princes, hiring bodyguards for them during the voyage. He contacts five associates to do so, explaining his goals of coming into contact with Tserriednich to them, and promising that they could abort their mission with him if he manages to shake Tserriednich's hand on the eve of departure. The six of them each apply to one of the six listings, and Kurapika applies to the one he believes 9th Prince Halkenburg had made, aware of Halkenburg's comment on social media that Tserriednich is the only Prince he accepts. They split up to meet their employers, and Kurapika finds out that Halkenburg had not made a listing at all from his potential employer, 8th Queen Oito, mother of 14th Prince Woble. Oito reveals the nature of the contest as a battle to the death until one Prince survives, and also explains that the higher ranking Princes, who have power and wealth, and including Tserriednich, have their own personal armies and are well-prepared to welcome the battle. Kurapika explains his goals of getting into contact with Tserriednich, and Oito agrees to assist him.[19]
On the eve of the Black Whale 1's departure, Tserriednich participates in a ceremony for the voyage. Tserriednich stands with the rest of his siblings and Beyond Netero on a stage, staring at the crowd. While waving to the crowd, he silently tells the "ignorant masses" to watch him become the next King. Kakin's Royal Family is flown into the Black Whale 1 shortly after, and Tserriednich is next seen at a ceremony taking place there, mingling with guests together with Halkenburg.[9]
The Black Whale 1 departs the next day, and Tserriednich attends the departure ceremony. He observes Benjamin,[10] and later is approached by Tubeppa, who proposes an alliance against their three elder siblings, described by her as repulsive, arrogant, greedy, and indulgent, with the firm belief that they should be purged. Tserriednich smiles and agrees with her descriptions, but says nothing about the proposed alliance. The two siblings clink glasses as Tubeppa takes her leave, and Tserriednich wonders if she will still be alive in a week. From a short distance, Nasubi observes his childrens' Guardian Spirit Beasts.[1]
A Genius begins to learn Nen
Tserriednich takes his leave shortly after, and starts inquiring among his guards about the Nen beasts mentioned in Kurapika's announcement. He comes across Theta on his way back and asks her about them. After hearing that she knows about Nen beasts, he further asks her if she can use Nen herself, which she confirms.[1] They return to his quarters and Theta begins training Tserriednich in Nen. After Benjamin returns to Room 1001, he sends his personal soldiers to guard the other princes, including Tserriednich. One of Tserriednich's bodyguards approaches and suggests that being the First Queen's child, Tserriednich does not have to oblige Prince Benjamin's request to accept a bodyguard. Tserriednich tells his bodyguard to tell Benjamin's soldier "You idiot" and brushes him off, saying that he is in the middle of his Nen meditation, having begun learning Nen under Theta.[20]

Tserriednich accuses Theta of lying
Four hours after departure, Theta attempts to have Tserriednich begin to visualize Nen, but is cut off by him demonstrating that he can already do so. Theta is speechless at his progress, and realizes that he is a genius.[13] In the midst of practicing Gyo, Tserriednich is contacted by Room 1014 with an offer to have two of his employees learn Nen through a set of lessons spanning two weeks under Kurapika. He asks Theta for her opinion on his statement that they could teach Nen in two weeks, pointing out that it was significantly different for her claim of six months to master the basics. He ignores her attempts at dismissing the question and directly asks her if she is lying. As Theta begins explaining her interpretation of their claim in greater detail, Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast begins to materialize behind her and watch her closely. Tserriednich tells her that he hates lying women, and asks her if he can trust her. Theta lies and says that he can, and her blood is seen dripping onto the floor.[16]
In Room 1014, despite having earlier collapsed due to overexhaustion of his ability,[16] Kurapika attempts to convince a skeptical Oito to navigate a Nen-controlled cockroach through the airducts connecting the Princes' rooms. Oito is wary that his choice to spy on Tserriednich is prioritizing his interests over Woble's, but is convinced to do so after Woble reaches out to him. The cockroach does not survive for long, and is eaten by Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast before Oito can spy on him.[21]
At 9:00 a.m. the next day, Tserriednich's personal guards and provisional hunters Myuhan and Danjin attend Kurapika's lessons under orders from him to kill everyone in the room should they fail to learn Nen in two weeks.[21] Before introductions begin, Myuhan tries to agitate Kurapika, but ends up agitating himself through a snide remark about Tserriednich in response.[22] A participant is killed by Nen shortly after introductions are finished, prompting Kurapika to give the participants some time to decide if they want to continue. During this time, Danjin is seen contacting Room 1004 for instructions. Elsewhere on the boat, a member of the Buor Family tells a few Phantom Troupe members about Tserriednich's connection with the Heil-Ly Family, one of Kakin's three biggest Mafia families, all three on board the ship.[7]
At 10:05 a.m. during lessons the next day, Myuhan is killed in the same manner as the participant the earlier day, his exsanguinated corpse found in the toilet. Danjin returns to 1004 and reports this to Tserriednich, who asks if he wants to continue going to the classes. Danjin wants to continue for two weeks, and Tserriednich allows him to do so on condition he is able to prove his innocence after. After that, Tserriednich takes a Water Divination test. The leaf withers away and the water begins to boil and release a putrid smell, identifying Tserriednich to be a notably sinister Specialist.[5]

The Prince's two Nen beasts
Tserriednich continues training and exceeding Theta's expectations. On Saturday night, he has an unknown individual dismembered in his room while he talks on the phone with an unknown party, confirming that, as far as he knows, Morena Prudo, boss of the Heil-Ly family, is not in the VVIP area, and suggests that she has likely been on a lower tier since boarding, camouflaged with a bribed butler. He says that he will personally look into it as soon as he gets the chance and has his men tell his private militia in the lower tiers to look for her. He then resumes his training with Theta, when suddenly he feels an odd sensation, which, unbeknownst to him, is due to him manifesting a Nen beast. Theta notices this and cuts him off, deciding that it is time for him to progress to learning more advanced techniques. Tserriednich rejoices upon hearing this, forgiving Theta for slowing down his training in the face of his genius, and letting her know that he has a high opinion of her. Unbeknownst to him, his Guardian Spirit Beast watches Theta closely for a lie, but deems that she is telling the truth. Under Theta's tutelage, Tserriednich begins practicing Zetsu.[23]

The Prince is shot
The following day, Theta tells him to maintain a state of Zetsu for one hour while she attempts to distract him.[14] As soon as Tserriednich shuts his eyes and all his Aura nodes, he hears a noise like of static and sees and hears himself and Theta talking. Wondering what happened, his Zetsu comes undone. Meanwhile, Theta talks to him exactly as he sees in his vision, answering the questions Tserriednich poses her rather than what he actually asks her. This leads Tserriednich to realize that he can see the future and that everyone else will act exactly like in his premonition, even if he changes his course of action. After 10 seconds, Theta is able to interact with him again. Tserriednich reactivates his Zetsu and closes his eyes, causing a new vision to start. He understands that the vision is instantaneous and that it lasts 10 seconds, after which time will progress as normal outside his vision, but he will maintain a 10-second head start. He sees Theta breaking a cup to distract him, and he delights in what he calls her "sadism". In the vision, he loses control of his Zetsu, but in reality, he does not, although Theta acts as though he had. He pretends that his Zetsu was broken and declares that he will maintain his focus no matter what happens to Theta. Upon reactivating Zetsu and his ability, he sees Theta flicking a ball of aura at him. While Theta is looking at the version of him with his eyes closed, Tserriednich asks her what she thinks of him, enjoying his power. He decides to see how long he can keep it up for.[24]
After a while, he sees Theta pulling out her gun. To his horror, she shoots him in the head. He breaks his Zetsu and the ability, seeing Theta with her gun already out of the holster. Shocked, he jumps out of the way.[24] As soon as she opens fire, Melody's flute performance begins, transfixing him.[25] When it ends, he understands that he was under the effect of someone else's Nen ability. He relishes the intricacies of Nen.[24] Two other bodyguards break into the room, but Tserriednich tells them that the gunshot was part of their training.[14][24] He notices her befuddlement and surprise when he speaks. He decides to take his time with finding out why she tried to shoot him.[24] He approaches Theta, who is coughing and had dropped to her knees, and tells her to take a break. Theta loses consciousness after Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast talks to her.[14]
His staff tells him about what happened during Melody's performance, so he has them ask her to his room, under pretenses of an invitation (which can be refused) rather than a summons. He glances at the unconscious Theta as she is carried out.[14][24] He then comes up with a theory about his Nen ability and understands the necessity of reducing the time it takes him to activate Zetsu, as well as of honing the skill to maintain it, confident that if he can do that, he can dominate the succession contest and eventually the world itself.[24]
He continues his Nen training the next day with Salkov while Theta rests. Salkov is surprised to learn that in one week, Tserriednich is already applying the four exercises and working on shortening his Zetsu response time, without having his Nen forcibly awakened. Tserriednich tells Salkov to track the time taken for Tserriednich to close and open his eyes, and spar with him when that time is less than a second. Tserriednich also casually remarks that he has changed his mind about two-faced women and that he has come to find them cute.[15]
Under Tserriednich's orders, his personal platoon breaks into the Heil-Ly hideout on Tier 3 and finds it abandoned. They find two corpses and identify them as Cha-R members,[26] allowing them to justify their forced entry into the hideout. While leaving to get the assistance of Xi-Yu and Cha-R in finding the Heil-Ly, Otocin asks his leader Gipper about contingency plans against Nen users, explaining that Nen is related to why "Tserried" has not responded to the Heil-Ly situation, and revealing that Borksen (currently in the Royal Quarters security detail) was the source of his information. Gipper chastises Otocin for abbreviating Tserriednich's name.[2]
The soldiers resume their search for the Xi-Yu and Cha-R, and Otocin talks with Momolly and his fellow soldiers about why Morena would pick a fight with "Tserri" without a plan. Gipper overhears Otocin abbreviating Tserriednich's name again and once again chastises him. Momolly points out that Tserriednich would only put retaliation against a traitor on the backburner if he found something else to entertain himself with. Gipper asks if Momolly is referring to a weapons stripping and reassembly drill, where Tserriednich was rumored to hole himself up in a room without eating or sleeping, in order to practice and break the academy's speed record for the drill. Otocin adds that "the punk" pretended his praciticing was just playing, and gets another scolding from Gipper for his phrasing. [2]
The soldiers continue to talk about Tserriednich's time in the Kakin Royal Military Academy, this time about a story of Tserriednich shooting another trainee in the leg after the awards ceremony. Otocin points out that Tserriednich's actions hinted at insecurity, given that the other trainee's argument of acting big because of one's skill and not status was a sound argument. Gipper eventually asks if the soldiers believe Tserriednich's lack of retaliation towards Morena is because of him learning Nen. Momolly confirms this, and the soldiers move to talking about making plans to identify when the the Heil-Ly purge begins. The group individually think about their memories and friendship with Tserriednich, and how time and status changed their relationship with him. Gipper puts in a transfer request for himself and is put in the upper tiers.[2]
The soldiers eventually regroup with Borksen, who was unable to learn what Nen was, but confirms that Theta is teaching Tserriednich Nen. Borksen mentions noticing that Theta and Salkov acted weird after learning that Tserriednich had found out about Nen. The group make plans to avoid looking for Morena, while pretending to look for her. Borksen points out that the tattoo artist that Tserriednich hired to give them their unit tattoos was formerly a Heil-Ly member, who had avoided the Heil-Ly massacre as a result, and so could identify them. The group wonders if Tserriednich being able to learn Nen means that they, too, can learn Nen.[2]
While Melody is detained by the Justice Bureau under suspicion of being involved in the attempted escape by Princes Kacho and Fugetsu, she is visited by Vantine,[27] under Tserriednich's directions to invite her to Room 1014.[14][24]
At 8:00 a.m. on the eleventh day of the voyage, while simultaneously running on the treadmill and using his phone, Tserriednich is informed by Salkov that he had taken 9.67 seconds to activate his Zetsu. He notes that he has finally broken the ten-second barrier for Zetsu activation, and comments that it would take a while to get to where he wants before instructing Salkov to time him again in ten seconds as he continues multitasking. Salkov raises an eyebrow at his perception that he "finally" broke the ten-second barrier, comparing Tserriednich's growth rate with his own, having taken a year to break the ten-second barrier despite knowing Zetsu since birth. As Salkov reassures Tserriednich that he is doing great and his speed is remarkable, he mentally reviews the information Theta gave him about Tserriednich's Nen and his jester-like Nen beast, trying to figure out what happened to her.[3]
Vantine enters the room and updates Tserriednich about their progress in getting Melody to their side. Vantine lets him know that the Justice Bureau and Benjamin both suspect her involvement in 10th and 11th Princes Kacho and Fugetsu's escape attempt, and Tserriednich instructs him to continue and not let Benjamin get ahead of them, all while continuing to multitask.[3]
Between 6:00 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. that same day, Fugetsu is escorted around Tier 1 by Kaiser and the Ministry of Justice to deliver a letter that the recently-deceased Kacho had written for each Prince, to be delivered in case of her death. Tserriednich rejects their letter and tells them to throw it away.[4]
Later that day, Tserriednich manages to enter Zetsu in 3.496 seconds, and is reminded of a quote saying, "leveling up isn't climbing a hill, but a staircase". He states that before this, he was about to be discouraged because his activation time seemingly would not get shorter. Tserriednich reminds himself to not take it easy yet, expecting that getting his activation speed to be less than a second would be much harder, but intensely resolves to make it happen, whether it takes one week, ten days, or even two weeks. He continues by practicing the four basic techniques.[17]
Halkenburg dies early in the morning of the twelfth day of the voyage on Tier 3 at the general hospital, and his casket begins making its way up to the morgue on Tier 1 at noon. Soldiers are stationed to manage the crowds that gather to send him off. After the crowd begins to disperse, Otocin and Momolly gather with their friends, and learn that Borksen is missing. They begin to assume the worst, that Borksen has been abducted, and Otocin suggests that the Heil-Ly had used Nen abilities to manipulate her and might be using her to assassinate "Tserri".[28]
In the afternoon of the twelfth day of the voyage, special martial law is declared. At the Justice Bureau, Mizaistom asks Benjamin to provide his reason for declaring special martial law. As part of his justification, Benjamin claims that Tserriednich had collaborated with Halkenburg to orchestrate terrorism with a biological weapon brought on board by a collaborator in his military.[29]

4th Prince Tserriednich is known to have a personal army. The exact strength of his personal army is unknown, but he has at least five of them stationed on Tier 3 of the Black Whale 1.[23][2] At least five soldiers from Tserriednich's personal army are childhood friends of him from their time at the Royal Military Academy.[2] It is unclear if any men from his personal army are counted toward his fifteen allotted soldiers.[2]
Two of Tserriednich's personal soldiers have been seen working under a corporal dressed in the same manner that corporals in the Kakin Military do. This strongly suggests the possibility that they are all members of the Kakin Military as well.[2]
Tserriednich's personal soldiers seemingly wear the same attire that soldiers from the royal army do. It is unclear if there are any differences in their outfits which can distinguish them from soldiers from Kakin's military; they seemingly wear the same attire that Kakin's military wears.[2]
At the start of the journey, none of Tserriednich's personal soldiers are known to be Nen users.[2] On the twelfth day of the voyage, PFC Borksen was abducted by the Heil-Ly and forcibly awakened to Nen.[28]
At some point, Cpl. Gipper requested a transfer of post to the higher tiers; it is unclear if the authority he made his request to is with the main military or with Tserriednich's personal army.[2][note 2]
Abilities & Powers
As one of the eldest princes of Kakin, Tserriednich has significant political influences, assets, and vast funds at his disposal, among which is a luxurious hotel.[11][19] He is also endowed with a squad of personal bodyguards.[12] Tserriednich is extremely brilliant, as well as knowledgeable about many topics, ranging from science, philosophy, and famous individuals to even football. According to Theta, his ability to consider multiple scenarios exceeds her own, even when it comes to a field he has only a basic knowledge of such as Nen.[5] He is known to have astounding visualization[23] and concentration abilities,[14] which contribute to his prodigious talent for Nen.
Nen

Tserriednich's Nen beast
Tserriednich is a Nen genius of prodigious talent who was able to exert minor control over the flow of his aura[13] and pin down the basics of Gyo in less than one day.[16] With this skill, he managed to gather enough aura around his hands to perform Water Divination, which revealed him as a Specialist. According to Theta, the manifestation of his aura during the test is indicative of an extremely sinister nature.[5] Over the next few days, he managed to reach such a proficiency in Ten and Ren that Theta had him perform advanced exercises.[23] According to Theta, he already possesses a large amount of aura.[14] He also succeeded in closing the Aura Nodes in his hands at the first try,[23] as well as to perform a perfect Zetsu for one hour on the third try despite the many disturbances,[14] although he admits that he is too slow inactivating it and his focus is still susceptible to breaking.[24] More impressively, however, he summoned a full-fledged Nen beast without even being aware of it, the medium of a Specialization ability which, according to Theta, was already in working order.[23] He later demonstrated to have unconsciously developed a Nen ability.[24]

After Tserriednich rescinds the "Precognition" part of the ability, a subsequent stage of the ability begins and everyone who was shown in the vision except Tserriednich himself will perceive the next ten seconds unfold exactly as he predicted, even if Tserriednich used his foreknowledge to change his course of action.[24]
![]() It is currently uncertain if this ability is connected to the Nen beast the prince manifested previously,[23] although the visions' point of view[24] corresponds to one of the beast's positions.[23] It is also unknown if the ability can also affect individuals who were not shown in the prediction. Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast
After shedding a drop of his blood inside the Seed Urn, Tserriednich received an "egg" from which a Guardian Spirit Beast, a type of Nen beast, hatched to guard him.[6] Since it is a parasitic-type ability, he has no control over it; and due to one of its conditions, Tserriednich is also unable to perceive both his and other princes' Guardian Spirit Beasts despite being a Nen user. The Guardian Spirit Beast is subjected to two rule-like instincts: it is unable to fight other Guardian Spirit Beasts as well as to directly attack the host of one.[1]

![]() ![]() ![]() | Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast is a horse-like creature with the head of a woman, slightly taller than Tserriednich when measured from foot to back. Though it postures itself like a horse, the "hooves" on its hind quarters are stilettos, and its front quarters resemble arms that end in hands with long fingers and sharp painted fingernails. It has the features of a curvaceous woman: a large bottom and large breasts with spikes for nipples. It has a flail for a tail, complete with a handle.[1] The number of "tails" it has varies between appearances; it has been seen with four, six,[23] and nine fronds. The Guardian Spirit Beast has a long, extendable neck. Its limits are unknown, but it has been seen extending up to approximately four meters long.[1]
Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast's type and ability have not been fully revealed, though some of its ability's effects have been seen. Whenever Tserriednich asks a person a question, his Guardian Spirit Beast brings its face close to the person Tserriednich is asking and judges their response. If it judges that they tell the truth, his Guardian Spirit Beast backs away,[23] but if it determines the person is lying, it marks them with a cut.[16][5] The cut worsens into a moderately large infection-like wound if the person lies to Tserriednich a second time. Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast is capable of speech, it gives people who lie a second time a verbal warning to not lie further, lest they be turned into something inhuman. It is not yet known what happens if a person lies to Tserriednich a third time; neither are any limitations on who can be asked questions known. Salkov conjectures that it gives traitors further chances to turn them into pawns for Tserriednich. Theta is the only person known to be marked by Tserriednich's beast thus far.[14]

Quotes
- (To Mark) "If I'm skinning pigs and monkeys, it's just dissection. What I seek is art, produced by youth with a future put in an extreme situation. A 'synthesis of the arts'."[11]
- (To Benjamin) "Finally, I can freely dispose of all the rotten trash. Quake in your sleep, Benjamin. I will be the next king."[12]
- "The seven deadly sins are missing something. Overreaching vanity!! Not realizing one's ignorance is the greatest sin of all!! Any pig offal becoming king instead of me is unacceptable!! Out of the question!!!"[12]
- (To Theta) "You know what I hate the most is a lying wench... Can I trust you?"[16]
- (To Theta) "Do anything you want. I'll give it my all. I don't care if you're writhing in agony on the floor, foaming at the mouth, I won't open one pore for you, so don't worry."[14]
- (To Salkov) "I've been surprised at my own change of heart. A two-faced woman can be pretty cute. ♡"[15]
- "This world of Nen is way too fun!!"[24]
- "Once I can control Zetsu at will I will dominate the battle for succession... and the world!!!"[24]
- I still can't take it easy, [...] one week, or ten days, it might even take two weeks... dammit! I'll make it happen! I'll carve it down!!"[17]
Trivia
- Tserriednich mentions several real-life famous figures explicitly, namely authorities in various fields such as Peter Ware Higgs, Immanuel Kant, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Hakuhō Shō, Gustav Theodor Fechner, Christian Goldbach and Leoš Janáček, as well as real-life football leagues, Serie A and La Liga. He also makes reference to embryonic stem cells (ESCs), induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS cells or iPSCs) and cross-cultural.[11]
- When asked to place his hand in the mouth of the ritual pot, Tserriednich worried it might be bitten off: this may be a reference to "La Bocca della Verità" ("The Mouth of Truth"). Starting from the Middle Ages, it was believed that if one told a lie while his hand was in the mouth of the sculpture, it would be bitten off.
- Tserriednich's status as the Fourth Prince of Kakin is likely an allusion to Japanese superstition, which equates the number four with death due to the words' similar pronunciations. This is in line with Tserriednich's murderous tendencies and generally malevolent personality.
- Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast's form could indicate a subconscious interest of Tserriednich in two-faced women despite his initial claims to despise them.
- Tserriednich's Nen beast has the number 666 (arranged in a circular fashion) on its abdomen; a number called the "Number of the Beast" in the Book of Revelation and also in popular culture.[23]
- Tserriednich's Nen ability bears a strong resemblance to the power of Diavolo's Stand "King Crimson" from Part 5 of JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
- In the chapter that Tserriednich's ability manifests, he strikes a pose similar to the characteristic ones of Hirohiko Araki's series,[24] possibly to acknowledge the connection.
- The aural pattern that signals the beginning and end of Tserriednich's Nen ability is an example of white noise, which is occasionally associated with ESP, such as in ganzfeld experiments.
- His name seemed to be difficult to pronounce, causing some people to shorten his name, but at the same time, it is extremely disrespectful and insolent to do so.
Intertextuality and References
- Tserriednich's ability bears remarkable similarities with the signature ability of the stand King Crimson from the series Jojo's Bizarre Adventure. King Crimson's signature ability is time erasure. More specifically, the moment its ability is activated, King Crimson is the only person that is conscious and can act for up to ten seconds; other people are unable to experience anything that happens and will continue to act as they would have. After the time is up, all people other than the user retain no memories of anything that happened during the erased period. There is also a precognitive aspect of King Crimson called Epitaph which Tserriednich's vision of the future may be a reference to.
- Roboco of the Me & Roboco manga briefly cosplays as Tserriednich's Guardian Spirit Beast in Chapter 91.

Notes
- ↑ This is presumably the reason Tserriednich gets along well with Halkenburg, since Chapter 350 reveals Halkenburg to be an accomplished scholar and athlete.
- ↑ If the authority Gipper's transfer request was made to was indeed with Tserriednich's personal army, it would imply that Gipper seeks to prevent information leakage within Tserriednich's personal army, which is not entirely logical.
