"Arrogant. Greedy. Indulgent. They should be purged. Every single one."

— Tubeppa Hui Guo Rou to Tserriednich Hui Guo Rou, in "Resolve"

Tubeppa Hui Guo Rou (ツベッパ=ホイコーロ, Tsubeppa Hoikōro) is the Fifth Prince[1] of the Kakin Empire and the daughter of her father's second wife, Queen Duazul.[2]

Appearance[]

Chap 358 - Tubeppa in color

Tubeppa's full body appearance

Tubeppa has sharp, bowl-shaped fair hair, a long nose, a long thin mouth, and a squarish chin. She wears a pair of eyeglasses and earrings.[2] Her features and build are masculine; she also chooses to wear a formal suit during the departure party, while her sisters are wearing dresses.[3]

Personality[]

Chap 366 - Tubeppa's room

Tubeppa as a scientist

Tubeppa is a scientist.[2] She displays confidence to win the succession war. Unlike her sister Camilla and half-sisters, she prefers to dress in a more masculine style of clothing.[3] She has a straightforward personality, and much like her half-brother Tserriednich, she analyzes the capabilities of the other Princes. She plots to purge her older siblings Benjamin, Camilla, Zhang Lei, and Tserriednich, all of whom she deplores for their qualities, even though Camilla is her own biological elder sister and she proposed an alliance with Tserriednich.[4] According to Shimano, she has an ideal version of the kingdom, she is very patient and tolerant, and she will reprieve her younger siblings once she gains control of the throne.[5]

She seems to value humility and moderation. She expresses her loathing to those who lack both, such as Benjamin for his arrogance, Camilla for her greed, and Zhang Lei for his indulgence.[4] She is known to be very cautious, overly so in Furykov's opinion.[6]

Plot[]

Succession Contest arc[]

Tubeppa is first officially seen when Kakin's 14 Princes are introduced. Tubeppa is seen wearing protective gear and handling chemicals in a laboratory, and introduced as the fifth Prince, the daughter of 2nd Queen Duazul.[2] During the eve (of departure) festival, Tubeppa is seen with the rest of her siblings and Beyond Netero on a stage, smiling at the crowd from the back of the group and reaffirming her thoughts of being the next King. Kakin's Royal Family is flown into the Black Whale 1 shortly after, and Tubeppa is next seen attending a ceremony taking place in the Black Whale 1 dressed in a black suit, walking beside three of her half-siblings—1st Prince Benjamin, 2nd Prince Camilla, and 3rd Prince Zhang Lei.[3]

Chap 362 - Tserriednich and Tubeppa

Tubeppa and Tserriednich forming an alliance

The Black Whale 1 departs the next day, and its departure horn is sounded, marking the beginning of the succession contest. A departure ceremony is held in a banquet hall on Tier 1, which all Princes attend to qualify as a participant in the succession contest. During this departure ceremony, Tubeppa approaches Tserriednich to propose an alliance. Tubeppa explains her reasons for choosing to ally with Tserriednich to him, sharing that she believes that the succession battle is, in essence, a contest for survival between the top five, and that their older three siblings are repulsive. Tserriednich agrees with her characterizations, and clinks his champagne flute with her wine glass. Tubeppa then tells Tserriednich she will see him next Sunday, passes her wine glass to a nearby waiter, and waves as she takes her leave. Tserriednich agrees, but quietly expresses his doubt that she would still be around then. From a distance, Nasubi watches their interactions, observing the Guardian Spirit Beasts the siblings are unable to see. Tubeppa's Guardian Spirit Beast is seen for the first time, a large toad-like creature with spoked wheels for feet and covered in stubs.[4]

Kurapika makes an announcement about the existence of Nen beasts while the Princes attend the departure ceremony. After returning to Room 1007, 7th Prince Luzurus consults the Hunters among his bodyguards about the announcement and decides to continue with his original plan of having Tubeppa be his first target after they tell him how long it takes to learn Nen. Tubeppa interprets Kurapika's announcement regarding the Guardian Spirit Beasts as him wanting an impasse. Tubeppa expresses interest in learning more about him and orders one of her bodyguards to bring information about him immediately.[7] Maor makes a call to Room 1014, and offers to enter a truce with them in exchange for information on Nen beasts. Roughly an hour later, Maor lets Tubeppa know that he is leaving to learn about Nen at Room 1014. Tubeppa expresses her doubt that Kurapika would share everything, and lets Maor decide how to best handle Kurapika over several meetings. As Maor takes his leave, Tubeppa thinks of how to deal with the spies sent by higher-ranking queens. She watches Butch, a guard sent by Benjamin, and decides to do something about him first.[8]

Chap 383 - Melody's performance

Tubeppa transfixed by Melody's performance

Later that night, Tubeppa is contacted by Room 1014 and agrees to send her bodyguards to learn Nen under Kurapika.[9] The next day, she sends Maor and Longhi and orders the two to form an alliance with Kurapika within the two week period, even if Woble needs to be with Kurapika.[10] During the banquet on Day 7 of their voyage, Tubeppa is briefly transfixed by the music of Melody's flute performance.[11] The following morning, Tubeppa receives her report from Maor and Longhi about their Nen training. Maor reports that Woble's strongest truce is with Zhang Lei, but that the truce is for a limited time and on unequal terms, with things to exploit. Maor expresses his belief that the Nen training was authentic, and believes that Tubeppa and her bodyguards should proactively learn Nen. After listening to Maor's report, Tubeppa consents to further lectures, letting Maor and Longhi decide who attends.[12]

While Maor and Longhi give their report to Tubeppa, Benjamin's guard Rihan stands guard and observes them. To best use his Predator to assist Benjamin, Rihan must learn the abilities of his targets as best he can. Rihan notes to himself that Tubeppa's Guardian Spirit Beast has never shown itself, but prudently reminds himself that it may still be as dangerous as Halkenburg's blatant Guardian Spirit Beast. Despite his posting, Rihan begins to consider going after Halkenburg's Guardian Spirit Beast instead of Tubeppa's.[12]

After receiving Maor and Longhi's report, Tubeppa turns her attention to the change of Benjamin's guard from Butch to Rihan. She effortlessly deduces correctly that Salé-salé is dead from considering his absence from the banquet the night before and his personality. She decides to investigate Salé-salé's cause of death, paying particular consideration to whether Nen was involved, and prepares to come up with a list of Nen abilities, if so, to influence the developing abilities of those among her bodyguards who are learning Nen. She entrusts a flash drive full of data to Heisen to follow up with, before returning to her train of thought. Tubeppa wants to look at the shift logs of Benjamin's soldiers, but decides to be patient after considering that she might look suspicious during so. She next considers contacting the guard of her mother, Duazul, who was assigned to Salé-salé, but decides against it as Camilla would learn of her actions. Estimating Maor not to be powerful enough to counter Nen attacks, she determines that she needs Kurapika.[12]

On Day 10 of the voyage, Kaiser speaks to Melody while she is held in the Justice Bureau on Tier 2. He lets Melody know that several princes have requested to visit her to issue pardons and request an encore, including Tubeppa.[13]

At 11:45 a.m. on the 10th day of the voyage, Longhi is invited by Kurapika and Bill into Room 1014's master bedroom in order to privately initiate her with Nen, as they did with her unawakened classmates.[13] Longhi enters, intending to get Kurapika's assistance with a personal goal on top of establishing a truce with Tubeppa. Longhi activates her Moonlight Act to establish the contract and prove her innocence of the deaths of Barrigen and Myuhan. Longhi reveals that Tubeppa is unaware of Longhi's ability and of her ability to use Nen in general. Longhi continues by sharing that her ability requires her to explain the whole truth first and that telling Kurapika the details of a contract between him and Tubeppa would suffice if that were her only goal. Still, she plans to share more so Kurapika can help him with a personal goal.[14]

Longhi reveals that she is Beyond Netero's daughter, and that she was one of many children he had marked in infancy to be "curse sacrifices" of varying strengths, whom she believes has Princes counted among their targets. She states her belief that he is attempting to influence the succession battle because he is the father of one of Kakin's 14 Princes, and her desire to be the one to kill Beyond's child among the Princes, if Kurapika is able to identify them. Kurapika notes that Dowsing Chain has not indicated that Longhi is lying[14] and agrees to the truce Longhi described: [13]

  • Neither side will interfere with or attack the other side's Prince, Queen, or Guards[14]
    • Healing or other acts of support are not counted as a Nen "attack"[14]
  • The contract will last until 9 a.m. on Sunday (Day 15) and will automatically renew for another week, provided that a representative from Tubeppa is present in Room 1014[14]
  • Moonlight Act will activate only if Kurapika's side violates the agreed terms. The reward is a one-time use of Moonlight Act, the penalty is a week of forced Zetsu[14]
  • Tubeppa's side will not unilaterally terminate the contract as long as they do not uncover a malicious act from Woble's side towards Tubeppa's side[14]
    • Longhi will never arbitrarily interpret any of the actions of Woble's side as malicious[14]
  • Woble's side must identify the Prince, who is Beyond's child, before Tubeppa withdraws or only two Princes remain.[14]
    • If it is discovered that none of the Princes are Beyond's child, the ability would immediately activate and reward Woble's side[14]

After classes end that day, Tenftory returns to Room 1003, and Longhi and Maor return to Room 1005, and at 1:30 p.m. both parties give their Princes an update on their alliances. Tenftory tells Zhang Lei that Woble and Tubeppa had promised to defer the throne to him if they remained the final three Princes. Zhang Lei remarks his surprise at the fact that Woble and Tubeppa had agreed to this, particularly that Tubeppa would agree to it and reward Tenftory with a coin. Maor tells Tubeppa that Kurapika had entered their truce and agreed to their alliance, on condition that Woble and her mother 8th Queen Oito accompany him whenever he comes to Room 1005, and that Zhang Lei's guards had also demanded to be present when information was shared. Tubeppa welcomes the idea, stating that she would not even mind it if Woble came to live with her.[15]

Rihan watches their interaction near her, interpreting their exchange as confirmation that they would be colluding with Kurapika. Tubeppa thinks that Tserriednich had chosen not to attend the Sunday banquet three days ago and interprets it as a sign that collaborating with her was unimportant to him. Given that Benjamin's guards are coming after her, she decides she cannot be choosy and hopes that the news of her pact with Zhang Lei will turn Benjamin's attention to him instead of her. Tubeppa instructs her guards to impress as much as they can upon Benjamin's guards and how close they are to Zhang Lei during the next lesson. Suddenly, Rihan notices a mass of aura gathering behind her, and her Guardian Spirit Beast appears facing him, croaking and producing fumes from its body. Rihan notes that Tubeppa's Nen beast had appeared right after the peace treaty was signed. He considers the possibility that the timing of its appearance was not a coincidence, which would imply that some part of it was conditional.[15]

Between 6:00 a.m. and 8:50 a.m. on the eleventh day of the voyage, 11th Prince Fugetsu is escorted around Tier 1 by Kaiser and the Ministry of Justice to deliver a letter that the recently-deceased 10th Prince Kacho had written for each Prince, to be delivered in case of her death. In Rihan's presence, Tubeppa receives the letter,[15] and reads it.[16]

Later that day, Tubeppa is seen thinking deeply as she uses her laptop.[17]

This particular issue arose when their mother Queen Sevanti sent all of Momoze's Hunters and servants to Marayam. Since we only got to see 4/5 of Momoze's Hunters and 2/3 of her servants by that time, we can't say for certain which prince the marked characters initially belonged to.

Abilities & Powers[]

Tubeppa Nen beast

Tubeppa's Guardian Spirit Beast

As a prince of Kakin, Tubeppa holds significant political power and wealth, although not on the same level as the elder princes.[1] She is knowledgeable about some branches of experimental science.[2] She is also knowledgeable in advanced mathematics, as she has recently written down several calculations on a blackboard behind her.[8]

Guardian Spirit Beast[]

Like the rest of her siblings, Tubeppa received an egg from which a Guardian Spirit Beast, a type of Nen beast, hatched to protect her.[2] Since it is a parasitic-type ability, she has no control over it. Tubeppa herself is unaware of its existence. The Guardian Spirit Beast is subjected to two rule-like instincts: it is unable to fight other Guardian Spirit Beasts as well as to directly attack the host of one.[4] It is known to be a Transmuter with a collaborative type ability that requires a "partner" (共同研究者(パートナー), collaborative researcher). It can synthesize various drugs and chemicals with all sorts of effects within its body.[18] Possibly due to taking after its host's nature, this Guardian Spirit Beast was said to be extremely cautious, to the point of not appearing at all in the presence of Benjamin's soldiers.[6]
