Summary[]
After making their way to Masadora and buying spell cards, Gon, Killua, and Biscuit return to the badlands to continue their Nen training. The two boys eventually discover the technique Shu as they dig their way back to Masadora. They continue to improve gradually to the point where each is able to catch a Hyper Puffball and Bubble Horse. Biscuit then teaches them other advanced techniques such as Ko, Ken, and Ryu, with the two constantly sparring to practice.
After training Gon and Killua for two weeks in the badlands, Biscuit moves on to training by Nen type and stresses a balanced, all-around approach. In the meantime, several members of the Phantom Troupe uses a boat to reach the island outside of the game, but a Game Master named Razor tells them that they will have to enter the correct way, using an "Eliminate" card to teleport them away and destroying their boat.
Back in the badlands, Biscuit begins with Enhancement training and then explains that rock-paper-scissors is based on real martial arts. Gon uses this concept and decides that he wants to create an ability based on the game, with rock using Enhancement, paper Emission, and scissors Transmutation. After Killua reveals his lightning ability and impresses the two, Gon reminds him that the next Hunter Exam is approaching. The three defeat a pack of wolves on their way to the harbor where Killua exits the game and then makes his way to the Lone Pine Tree. During Killua's absence, Abengane approaches Gon and Biscuit to tell them about the situation with the Bomber, asking them to spread the word and keep him from clearing the game. He then uses his exorcism ability to remove the bomb, putting on a disguise to cover the Nen#Nen beast and planning to satisfy the conditions to dispel Genthru's Nen.
At the hideout for Nickes' Alliance, as the group continues to amass specified slot cards and prepares to take on Tsezguerra's group, Genthru suddenly reveals that he is the Bomber, killing Jispa when he tries to subdue him. He then reveals that he has planted bombs on every member of the alliance and, as a condition of his Countdown ability, explains how to deactivate them. He warns them that his Little Flower will keep them from getting close and offers to spare their lives for 90 specified slot cards, escaping from the hideout before anyone can stop him. Although the members eventually agree to the deal and hand over the cards, the Bombers pretend to deactivate the bombs but actually detonate them all at once, killing nearly every member of the alliance.
As Killua talks with the Kiriko before heading to the exam site, Gon and Biscuit learn that the Bomber has attacked the alliance when a new shipment of cards arrives in Masadora. While Gon continues to train with Biscuit, Killua arrives at the exam site and knocks every other examinee unconscious, collecting their badges and becoming the only one to pass as he leaves the examiner stunned. He quickly returns to the game and is surprised to see how many spell cards Gon and Biscuit have collected. As the two suddenly notice Chrollo's name in Gon's book, the Troupe members have returned to the island using the correct way and realize that the exorcist Chrollo is looking for must be on Greed Island.
Hisoka then reveals himself and explains that he is looking for the exorcist for Chrollo, with the others realizing that Chrollo hired him for the job and intends to reward him with a fight afterwards. Killua calls Kurapika to confirm that his Judgment Chain still hasn't been removed, and at the Nostrade's Mansion, Light has a mental breakdown as he struggles with the loss of Neon's ability. After Gon reveals his ability to Killua, the trio begin to collect specified slot cards by completing various challenges around the island, eventually reaching 57 and celebrating.
