Summary

As Chimera Ants capture dozens of humans and take them back to their nest, Kite and his group research the species and discover that the Ant they're looking for may have washed up on the shores of NGL in the Mitene Union. The Queen assembles the Squadron Leaders and orders them to bring her 50 humans a day so she can focus on giving birth to the King. Kite, Gon, Killua, and Kite's companions arrive at NGL's border stop and prepare to enter the country.

The NGL ambassadors explain that no modern technology is allowed, and after being screened, the remaining members of Kite's group begin their search for the species. Inside the country, all the Hunters who ventured there are either killed or captured as food for the Queen. After encountering one of the Ants, Gon, Killua, and Kite discover the dark side of NGL, a narcotics factory producing a drug known as D², and each defeats a Chimera Ant once inside.

Rammot awakens to Nen after his fight with Gon and Killua and begins awakening the power in his fellow Ants. Elsewhere, the three Hunters are ambushed and surrounded, forced to fight in order to survive. Each is victorious, and they continue making their way toward the nest. The Royal Guard named Neferpitou awakens and discovers Pokkle hiding under a pile of bones, torturing him for information on Nen. As the three Hunters get closer to the nest, Pitou senses their presence, attacking Kite and severing his arm. Killua knocks Gon unconscious to keep him from attacking, and the two boys flee as Kite prepares to fight Pitou.

After Killua carries Gon back to NGL's border stop, Netero and two other Hunters (named Morel and Knov) arrive as reinforcements to eliminate the Chimera Ant threat. Netero stresses that Gon and Killua can only join them if they defeat the other two candidates for the team. When Gon wakes up, he assures Killua that Kite is still alive and that they have to get stronger so they can rescue him. In a forest in NGL, Pitou is seen holding the decapitated head of Kite.
