Summary[]
As Palm and Ikalgo hide Komugi in order to buy time, she tells him that Meruem will be dead in a few hours. It's explained that the Poor Man's Rose is poisonous, infecting victims and causing them to be contagious to others to create a chain of deaths. Shaiapouf begins coughing up blood, and Meruem decides to continue their game, once again using his En and then confronting Welfin among the hypnotized crowd. As Meruem's bloodlust grows, Welfin desperately searches his mind for the answer and finally says Komugi's name aloud, causing the King to remember playing Gungi with her.
Meruem spares Pouf and asks Welfin where the other intruders are. Even after Welfin yells out that Gyro is his king and the Chimera Ants are his enemy, Meruem simply walks away and hopes that Welfin can see Gyro again and live as a human. In Bizeff's private hangar, Meruem uses his refined En to locate Palm, assuring her that their side has won and that all he desires is to spend his remaining time with Komugi. After Palm agrees to tell him under the condition that she can watch the two with her ability, Meruem locates the sleeping girl and wakes her up so the two can play again. Outside, Pouf is seen lying dead among the hypnotized crowd.
Welfin and Bloster go their separate ways, the latter staying behind in NGL and the former journeying to Meteor City with Hina and Bizeff to find Gyro. Bloster escorts Shidore to a nearby village, and it's revealed that Shidore is Reina. She and her mother have a tearful reunion, and Bloster stays behind as well. Hunter Association airships surround the palace, and as news reports discuss the situation in East Gorteau, the real Ming Jol-ik enjoys a simple life elsewhere.
A doctor tells Knuckle and Knov that Gon is in critical condition, and Knov is prepared to do whatever it takes to keep him alive. Killua waits outside his room and wishes that Gon had asked for help even once. He resolves to save Gon, but swears that he will make him apologize. Morel talks with Colt about the child he has been watching. The girl exclaims that her name is Kite, leaving Morel in disbelief. Meruem and Komugi spend their time playing Gungi, and the King reveals that he has been poisoned. Even after being told that it's contagious, Komugi is happy to stay by his side. The two continue playing until their deaths, with Meruem never winning against her.
It's explained that East Gorteau and NGL are dismantled after what took place, with the latter being designated as a reserve and put under the Hunter Association's jurisdiction. In a video made public, Netero announces his resignation as Chairman and says that an election (with a required 95% turnout) will be held to decide his successor, adding that the other details will be left up to the Zodiacs. At the Association's headquarters, the twelve Zodiacs have Beans see who will get to decide the rules for the election, and he pulls out Ging's slip (a plan formulated by Ging before the other Zodiacs arrived). Cluck uses her ability to send ballots to the other Hunters, and the voting commences. Illumi informs Hisoka that both Gon and Killua are likely to die, leaving Hisoka concerned and confused. Illumi explains that they have another brother in the Zoldyck Family, and he wants to kill him. Pariston leads the first round of voting, but since the turnout requirement isn't met, a revote is called.
