Yuri (ユウリ, Yuuri) is one of 10th Prince Kacho's servants during her voyage in the Black Whale to the Dark Continent.[1] She is a participant of Kurapika's Nen lessons, and eventually has her Nen awakened.[2]
Appearance[]
Yuri is a woman of average height for a servant. She has dark hair worn in a bob cut and small eyes. She dresses in a standard female servant's robe, a maid-like outfit.[1]
Personality[]
Like most servants and bodyguards under 10th Prince Kacho, Yuri despises her employer's attitude and even wishes for Kacho's demise.[1] Apart from that she is sociable as she is seen chatting with her fellow servant Loberry, and Illardia and Ladiolus, servants of Kacho's sister 11th Prince Fugetsu, throughout Kurapika's Nen lessons.[3]
Plot[]
Succession Contest arc[]
On the first day of the voyage, shortly after the boat departs and after 10th Prince Kacho returns from the departure ceremony to her residence of Room 1010, Yuri and several of Kacho's servants and bodyguards quietly complain amongst themselves about their employer after Kacho throws a tantrum and angrily sweeps the food they had just made her off the table, demanding they remake it. Yuri whispers to her fellow servant Loberry that she wishes their employer would get killed.[1]

Participants of the Nen training
Later that day, Kacho is contacted by Room 1014 and agrees to send her servants to learn Nen under Kurapika.[4] At 9:00 on the second day of the voyage, Yuri and Loberry turn up at Room 1014. The two servants smile at their luck, and both happily think about the fact that they were willing to do anything to (momentarily) escape her.[3]
During their first lesson, Loberry is possessed by an unknown party, allowing her to see a "mysterious woman" relating to their ability, which Loberry does not realize only she can see. Shortly after the participants finish their introductions, Kurapika asks if any of them can already use Nen. Yuri and Loberry look across the room to see Furykov (personal soldier of 1st Prince Benjamin) and Belerainte (guard of 13th Prince Marayam) raise their hands. Loberry whispers and asks Yuri why they are here if they could already use Nen; Yuri cannot think of a reason why and tells her as much. While doing so, Loberry notices the "mysterious woman" for the first time. She begins to fret, and asks Yuri who that woman was. Yuri, unable to see what Loberry could, asks her who she was talking about. She looks at where she believes Loberry is looking, but does not see anyone, and asks her "what woman?" again. Loberry continues to fret, and tells her that the woman was right there, and had a weird mask on. Yuri still does not see the woman, and asks Loberry to describe where she was. In fear, Loberry shouts and points at the "mysterious woman", drawing the attention of the class to where she "stood" though none of them can see what Loberry can. As the class is distracted, Barrigen (guard of Marayam) is attacked by snakes and collapses to the ground. Yuri hears a thud behind her and turns to see Barrigen clutching at a white band on his neck after having fallen to the floor. After Sakata (guard of 3rd Prince Zhang Lei) shoots the snakes leaving behind a dead Barrigen, Yuri asks Loberry what had happened to the weird woman, and hears Loberry say that she's now gone, unsure of where she went.[5]
Following Barrigen's death, Loberry is arrested and Yuri stands behind Mushaho, Captain of 5th Queen Swinko-swinko's Royal Guard, as he asks Kurapika what they would do if the same thing happened again. Kurapika gives his students time to decide whether to continue the Nen classes or not, and returns after a short while to see that everyone, including Yuri, had chosen to remain, and has them begin his first exercise.[6]
On the third day of the voyage, Myuhan (guard of 4th Prince Tserriednich) dies after being ambushed while using Room 1014's bathroom during the second Nen lesson. Several guards publicly accuse Kurapika of plotting to kill them, but Belerainte points out how stupid Myuhan was in letting his guard down like he did. To the side, Yuri talks with Illardia as Kurapika calls Belerainte over to privately thank him for his support.[7]

Yuri uses Erigeron
On the ninth day of the voyage, Kurapika decides to progress the class after Sakata tells him that the participants were beginning to question repeating the same training and were unsure if they were really going to be able to use Nen. Kurapika has Yuri and her fellow participants gather around a table to demonstrate Water Divination to them, explaining that they would use it to prove that they had awakened their Nen. Kurapika invites Ladiolus into another room to have her Nen divined. Yuri watches silently as Kurapika insists on conducting the divination privately despite other participants' suspicions over its location.[8]
Yuri and her fellow participants wait in Room 1014's living room as Ladiolus has her Nen awakened. Some of the bodyguards participating try to think about what they could do to verify the authenticity of Kurapika's actions and words. Still, Yuri stands near fellow servant Illardia and does not join the conversation. Eventually, Ladiolus steps out with her Nen awakened, and Furykov deems that Kurapika is not controlling her. Ladiolus rejoins Illardia and Yuri, and Yuri asks how her divination was. Ladiolus tells her that she cannot speak about it, and Kurapika tells the class that he will be imposing a gag order on the results until everyone has their Nen awakened.[2]
Later that day, Yuri is invited to awaken her Nen. Her eyes widen, and she gasps as Kurapika uses his Stealth Dolphin to transfer Bill's Erigeron to her, awakening her Nen. Kurapika instructs her to call on his Stealth Dolphin to activate it to do the same thing Bill did. Yuri holds her hands on each side of the glass and shouts in surprise as she sees the water overflow from the cup and the seed inside the water sprout. Kurapika tells her that the aura she had was borrowed and not hers, but now that she was primed, by learning Ten and Hatsu through breathing exercises, Yuri would be able to perform the water divination by herself and find out her type confidentially. Kurapika tells her his motivations for his sharing of Nen abilities and asks if she would help him tell Kacho and her mother 6th Queen Seiko, with a positive spin, that they were planning more classes, and Yuri agrees. Yuri steps out and is later seen with her fellow participants in the living room, one of four people having their Nen awakened by the end of the day.[2]
Abilities & Powers[]
Nen[]
Yuri has fully opened her Aura Nodes by Kurapika's Stealth Dolphin. She should currently be in the process of learning Ten to contain the leaking aura.[2]
Former Nen Abilities[]
Yuri's Nen Type: Unknown

Type: Enhancement | Erigeron (球根 Bulb)
The user of Erigeron has the ability to dramatically accelerate the growth of a living being by bringing the palms of their hands close to it. By using this ability on a seed inside a glass of water, it is possible to make it sprout in mere moments. Bill told Maor that he can use Erigeron on humans to improve their Nen abilities, although the effects on untrained or unskilled individuals are weak. Yuri received this ability via Kurapika's Stealth Dolphin, and it was returned to Bill after one use.[2] |
